Hi all,

I have just started purchasing MOC's as part of the next phase of my vintage collecting run. So to say that im a noob or noice in this regard would be a fair description of my knowledge in this area.

So im hoping some of the collecting community could share your advise / thoughts on how to look for signs of a reseal? Also are there any other factors that I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance

note: I have purchased some moc's from this site and am not questioning there legitimacy but like most begineers I need to ensure when im purchasing from other unknown traders outside this community / sites I have equipped myself with shared experiences from here.

To be honest, once you have these cards in hand then it is pretty easy to spot a reseal. The majority of original bubbles are heat sealed to the card and you can see the 'waffle' pattern - as far as I know, no one has ever managed to fake this

In addition, if the card has been resealed you can often spot where it has torn away

If it is a re-card then the differences in the card back between new and original is also easy to spot if you hold them side by side

Hi Iain,

thanks for the reply. In terms of the waffle pattern, can you explain this a bit more, thanks.

Yes I forgot and as you mentioned the re-card is another dimension to be aware of. Again can you just explain this a bit more with respect holding a re-card versus an original factory selaed card.

Cheers

Hi mate, I bought a re-seal not that long ago, although it was a good one and hard too spot since I unwrapped it and put it in place with my other mocs, then when jaws looking through my mocs I noticed where the tear had been glued down, but the thing I didn't notice was the glue residue which was used too stick the bubble down, this wasn't noticed until I put it under a small lamp and the glue was very easy too see, so that can also help when checking things.

Hi Scott,

thanks for the reply. Appreciate the feedback

Merrion there is a picture in this thread of the waffle pattern and slick seals so you know what to look for.

To me the waffle pattern looks like a criss cross effect.

I have a figure where the bubble has come loose on one side and i've carefully stuck it back with PVA. That repair is almost undetectable and was quite hard work to do. The waffle pattern is still there as it's the original bubble. Is that what you would class as a reseal? There are loads sold on ebay cunningly disguised as original but the 'reseal' or 'recard' is hidden in the small print

Thanks for the feedback and link. So while there are some checks that can be done to minimise the risk it
would apppear there is not a 100% guarantee unless you buy an AFA or UKG graded MOC it would seem.

AFA is no guarantee. The waffle pattern had been faked. Recarded figures are getting better, but there are still signs such as those that use double sided tape, glue residue, glossy photo paper, white card stock, punch off, Font wrong, old templates with washed out colors, bubble to large.....etc. A far as reseals go, tears, misaligned repairs, off color repairs, signs of glue, footers missing. It;s a crap shoot sometimes.

I've just been looking at a SW carded Power Droid on Evilbay and it looks fake, kind of like the seller has stuck on some price stickers and beaten it up a bit. Mailed the guy and he says it legit. The thing that makes me think it's really a fake is that the waffle pattern isn't visible. It's so hard to tell of some crappy Ebay photos. It's not going to be cheap either so i'm not going to risk it. Shame
