Looking through my card backs today and wondered if any of my cleaner cards were subject of ugrading? Any tell tale signs around bubble area?

I find that many of the ones that have been nicely slit with a razor are suspect of being leftover from U grading. Not all of them...but how many parents would actually take the time to to carefully slit the bubble for the kids on Xmas morning??

Makes sense todd cheers:-) i mean theres no way you could remove the bubble completely without leaving considerable damage especially on 30 year old mocs! I actually have a heavily creased card and looks like water damage on it too where the bubble has been slit all the way round, thought that maybe a ugrade

i think there was a section of mature collectors in the day who removed the figure for display and wanted to keep the cardback too, but like todd says, most were ripped apart by excited kids and dumped.

Ive been finding cut bubble cardbacks for years now, even before AFA were around. Some collectors in the early days still took care of packaging, although as aleady said most of us just tore the figure out :D I had around 3-400 cardbacks (including a 12 back set/full jedi set) as early as 2000-2001 so they have always be around, allbeit in greater numbers now for obvious reasons.

I beleive there is a huge market for cardbacks, and although most people despise the AFA practice it does please cardback collectors when such clean cards are available.

Hate U grading but I am guilty of buying reseals and quite a few cut bubbles. Would rather I had them as nice display pieces than they were binned. I wouldn't knowingly buy these from people I knew were U graders, then again I don't know anyone who is a U grader.

Hmm.. :?

I would hope any cardbacks were opened by children back in the day. Some may not be, but no matter what...I would not knowingly support U grades just get a cardback.

**** UGRADING CUNTS! :D

On another note i think cardback collecting has flourished because of AFA grading-its a fact some find hard to bare, but its true. However as i said before there were great cards around before them, but also some expensive cards. Ive owned early Palitoys with sliced bubbles and have seen Pochs,Mecanno etc with sliced bubbles too. Cardback collecting is becoming just as popular and competitive as MOC, MIB etc collecting and continues to roll on....

I have four ROTJ cards that had the bubble quite nicely cut off, and I had these way before the AFA were about.
