Show Yourselves!

Joe, we have the same issue - my wife is Colombian and over there the nurses do it from birth as well - but over here it is not that common - my wife wants to get it done as it is part of their tradition - I'm not fussed either way but I know she has mentioned it to her friends and my sister and has got a few disapproving looks !

People are a bit weird on this kinda stuff in England Iain, whenever we go into shops here kids stop and look, one little girl said to her dad in Sainsbury's "Daddy why has that baby got earrings?" lol

Even family members have been awkward with the earrings thing, my sister said she thinks a decision like that should be up to the child when they are older..that same sister as a vegetarian doesn't give her kids meat lol :D

I am like you though I didn't care one way or the other, she would have got them done at some point anyways, at least this way she didn't even know about it and the nurses are very experienced in the hospitals. I must admit even though they are only earrings, the minute she had them in her ears she completely turned from a "baby" to our little girl.

I wouldn't even know where you could get babies ears pierced in England actually, have you looked into it?

My sister was the same

Not sure where the wife intends to go but apparently they will do it after three months - it's funny all of liliana's family keep asking her why they aren't pierced as it is abnormal not to do it over there !

Family clashes, always come to the front when kids are involved...

Me and my missus had never had a full on argument until the little 'un arrived and we clashed over some things, what her family thought was right vs what my family thought was right, all seems silly now but it was huge at the time.

Kids bring new emotions to the table, strong emotions you may not have had to deal with in the past...

We always have left it up to our daughters when they're old enough to make the decision for themselves.
Personally if its not customary its not something I would get done to either of my girls at a young age, but that is just my opinion.

Yeah I totally respect that, it's not the norm in England so naturally people leave it till when their daughters are older to get it done. I don't think it should shock anyone though, kid's don't know any different but the reactions of Adults does surprise me a little, it's not like my wife is running around trying to pierce little girls ears or anything just because they do it in her country :D It's all about respecting everyone and their traditions and beliefs regardless of your own at the end of the day.

100% agree Joe

I agree with that too.

I've been a vegetarian for over 30 years now and both my kids were brought up on meat based dishes. My daughter turned veggie a year or so ago, my son makes a T-Rex looks vegan.

Went to a family day thing in Brentwood on sunday with the kiddies knowing that there would be some VIP walking about. Didn't tell my son and he was over the moon to bump into these fellas, as was I :D they were from the 501st UK garrison and looked the nuts 8) even their voices were spot on, apparently these guys have lucas' blessing due to their authenticity. My son is also dr who mad and there were a group called the Norwich time travellers club who attend these events for free raising money for sick children, but i'll spare you the dalek pics seeing as it's a sw forum :D

Just wish the people you trust to take pics for you were better at it!!!! Although the quality is compromised further as I am having to take a picture on my tablet from the computer screen as I can't connect the bloody 2 together

The Oompa Loompa spray tan phenomenon is not just limited to one small town in Essex, I think you will find there are orange people all over the county ;)

I grew up in Brentwood and it's not exactly a **** hole

Was at the Leisure centre for this family fun day, great for the kids but there were also a load of x factor type rejects singing too, so full of screaming girls which got a bit annoying. It was about 30 mins drive and although we didn't go anywhere else the high street looked well kept and the place in general was clean. Yeah the ompa lumpa brigade were out in numbers but sadly its the way kids tend to be these days

I know Brenwood very well indeed. I passed my driving test there having grown up further round the estuary in Maldon. True I may have been a little harsh in my criticism of that beauty spot.
