hi guys new here but did introduce myself in the intro thread

I think there is really a unspoken rule that it should be based on first come first serve basis in regard to receipt of pm in a sellers inbox not in a sales thread. That I believe makes it a level playing field for everyone and doesn't encourage cliques or mates favoritism. What will this require however is being actively proactive in seeking and responding quickly to sales threads.

Bang on, yer we need to avoid the dreaded cliques - I see enough of that at work.

I do wonder if this thread may have been bought about by the recent sales thread from sparky.Did notice a few comments there

Yep seems like Sparky missed the memo where it says he's not allowed to get on with his actual life because he opened a sales thread.

First world problems eh ;)

Not sure what first world problems has to do with this.
I've just had a look at this sales thread you refer to and I can see why there could be some confusion and frustration the guy didn't list prices for everything and was away most of the day. If I had a sales thread I would make sure I'd list it when I know I'm not going to be up to much and able to proactively respond to requests etc like decipher28 has said above.

Well obviously I was being facetious, but as for causing 'frustration' and 'confusion', sounds like you're describing my missus. Patience is a virtue 'n' all that ;)

thanks to everyone who took the time to reply i guess im just used to securing the sale and having everything completed in minutes!!

again thanks everyone

Yeah the last thing this place needs is to adopt facebook style rules for sales threads. Buying and selling on Facebook is like throwing a piece of meat into a pit of hungry tigers, the fighting and all round general bullshit that comes to the surface over some of the sales I've seen on various groups in the past borders on comical at times.

As said members that try dodgy **** on here get outed and handled accordingly very quickly, mistakes are sometimes made but cooler heads prevail ( most times ). You're not going to get every item you want all the time. Missing out on sales happens to everyone who collects and of course it can be frustrating at times but that's life. Nothing worse than watching a grown man get all pissy over missing out on buying a freakin toy.

On my sales threads it is simply first come first serve and I take note of both PMs and topic replies. I have notifications set on both so I can be completely fair. Generally most sales will be made in the first few hours of listing so I try and clear the decks and be ready to answer emails as I think that's good customer service and as a collector myself I appreciate we're all keen to get an answer as soon as possible.
I reply to people straight away and update the thread as quickly and as often as possible.
Please note: I have never had a buyer back out once I've marked as pending. I'm sure it will happen I just don't want people to get their hopes up unnecessarily. If it did it would go to the next person to make contact and so on.
Occasionally I have done deals outside the threads but generally these would be for duplicates of the ones I have listed in slightly worse condition.
That is the perfect way to conduct oneself :D

Sorry. Don't think the first in line thing works here. people forget because of the rules on some of the Facebook groups that it is the sellers prerogative who he sells to.

Bingo. First in line should never be a rule. Neither this forum or any other is a land grab where people can lay a claim by putting their family flag into the ground first. Lol

If the first guy to pm me is someone I don't like or I know is just gonna flip it right away, why should I have to sell to him just because he was first? As long as the seller doesn't start a bidding war above the list price, I think he can and should sell to whomever he wants that pays full asking price or the highest amount that also happens to be lower than asking price. Or even to a friend the seller may happen to like more than someone else that may have offered more money if he wants. Again, as long as it's at or below the asking price.

Bingo. First in line should never be a rule.

Works very well on echo base uk it helps weed out all the pals acts that goes on in the star wars community!!

Paul,

I really don't understand this. are you implying there's backstabbing going on here? If so, do you have any evidence you want to bring to our attention? We all know the rules of EB. We don't need to keep hearing them - we're not interested.

I'm just used to buying on fb now kind of forgot what it's like to need to throw your hat in and hope for the best buying style.

Yep you haven't mentioned how you prefer the rules on fb. Not even once.

I think Sellers reserve the right to sell to whoever they want however the big sellers here are always very honourable in my experience and sell to those who PM first.

Prime example, I was new to this forum, had about 10 posts to my name and Iain put a 12 back Ben Kenobi up for sale on one his threads for £50.

He was inundated with offers obviously but said to me "well done you're the first to PM its yours" He probably had offers from long standing forum members and he knew he pitched the figure at too low a price once he seen the volume of messages he received in overnight but all honoured and my addiction began. I stick to the same principles when I now sell.

I buy mostly on Facebook through the 12 back group and I don't want to bash Echo as its a decent group but I will say that Ive been done over by agreeing a sale and then the seller realising he could have got more and withdrawing it from sale for bullshit reasons. Whilst I can't hold a seller to it, its really poor form that would have been called out big time on here but nothing said on Echo.

In nearly every post you've made you made it clear you prefer rules as they are elsewhere. Not many people on here agree with you. Not much else to be said.

It's very simple.

Take your shoes off at the door.

What I mean by that is simply respect the rules of the group your using and stick to them. It's easy.
