My brother had a nightmare trying to claim for a lost item with Royal Mail. Ended up losing out. Apparently they make you jump through all sorts of hoops and just don';t want to pay out.
I had a damaged package with Hermes recently. Sent 3 Gentle Giant figures to a guy and the box arrived beat up and all the bubbles were dented and cracked. Filled in a form and sent pictures and was refunded within 48hrs.

Yep - I did think it would be a toughie to get comp from RM somehow. Good to here about Hermes though - that's excellent :)

Yeah i was surprised especially since it was the packaging that was damaged and not the figures. Also they asked for a link to the ebay item. I do have the figures on ebay but this was a private sale. A guy emailed me and asked to buy 3. I gave him a decent price. I told them that but sent them a link to the item anyway. They still awarded.
Hermes shipping with £250 insurance was about £8. And this box was big enough to fit a small person in (if you've seen the size of Gentle Giant figures you'll know how big a box you need to fit 3 of them!). Almost didn't take out the insurance as i've never had any issues before but thought- better be safe than sorry.

I too have a good news story about an AT ST posted through Hermes. No idea what happened as very little damage to box, but head of AT ST had broken off and many of the small pegs broken. Uploaded a few picture of the box and damage etc. Decided in my favour within a few days. Happy all round.

When trying to claim from Royal Mail for lost postage I gave up. I filled in a claim form took it into the post office and they told me I would have to post it to the claims office at my expense. It was only £4 figure so wasn't worth the hassle. I've heard other bad stories about Royal Mail being pedantic about receipts for items to prove value, and not accepting details from Ebay sales.

From my recent posts you probably think I hate Royal Mail, but they've only ever lost 2 items out of hundreds. They've just become a bit of a joke in certain areas of their service. I've recieved a typed apology about the Blue Bin incident but no forth coming compensation. Will be making a phone call tomorrow.

Yep, i've heard the exact same things. I have at least one package a week go missing with Royal Mail but i don't bother to claim. It's just not worth the hassle. MOst things i send are not that valuable so i just take it on the chin.
If i send anything expensive and want it insured i would never use Royal Mail. Courier every time.

I once tried a similar claim myself here at the belgian post. I send a parcel to UK and couldn't get insurance (they have really stupid rules here for insurance wich are basicly, the parcel has to be in a plastic, wooden or metal box, fully airtight sealed and weighing less then 1kg, and no insurance for abroad...)

So i shipped it without insurance, but with tracking and signature confirmation and it arrived damaged. I tried to complain about it and they basicly told me if i still have the shipping documentation and reciept, they would refund my the shipping cost, but nothing for the damaged parcel... i was beyond mad at that time.

I never quit understood how this can be possible anywhere.
I pay them to deliver a parcel safely from point A to B, if something happens to the parcel in transit or gets lost, they did not do their work properly and it's their fault, so their responsibility in my opinion...

If i pay someone to fix my roof, make a kitchen, paint my house, .. or whatever job, you also expect them to dilever good work or fix it when not done properly (or do not pay them). can't see why this rules don't apply to the PO.

Good luck with your claim Jason.
