Positive thinking. I like it.

They may even get better as they go.

Though I think AOTC was possibly worse than TPM. In places at least.

Definitely agree there, they killed off the two best character of the PT in the first movie and with Qui Gonn and Darth Maul gone, all we were left with were a couple of charisma-free planks in Hayden and Portman to fill the void. Plus the move to digital and greenscreen sets made AOTC look horribly artificial and photoshoppy so couldn't even enjoy it much from a visual perspective.

Argh - damn it, you've made me think of the prequels again! Better go and have a shower to cool off... :D

I wonder if they could have all been better movies with better actors and less CGI. Or were they basically just ill conceived stories?

The CGI certainly wasn't 'quite' there back in '98 when the PT began shooting, and maybe one day they'll do a Special Edition and take another pass at it, but the problems go way deeper than that. Too much time has been spent on the autopsy of the prequels, best just to bury them and move on...

Do you think there is an slightly skewed expectation for the new trilogy and stand-alone films given the general consensus of disappointment (compared to expectation) of the prequels? The prequels were always on a hiding to nothing due to the huge amount of love for the OT, no matter how good they were, they would always be harshly judged. They therefore had a tough act to follow.

I wonder if these coming films do have a softer platform to kick off from (due to the prequels dampening expectation) and therefore they have potentially an easier ride ahead of them critically... or of course, because the prequels were SO wrong, do these films actually have a heavier weight on their shoulders in order to make up for the prequels past failings?

Personally I'm really excited about the stand alone films, I like the idea of films/stories set in the same universe and some overlap of characters...

I wonder if after another 2-3 movies time everyone will be saying "oh god not another ****ing Star Wars movie!!" whenever Disney announce a new one

Hopefully they won't do silly little spin off shows on the Disney channel :x And they don't do what they did to Marvel and have two films out a year, followed by the avengers movie... I'd be more than happy with just the three new films planned.
