Retro Games console on a pi3

I am one of the unlucky ones who missed out on a Nintendo mini NES and I refuse to pay close to £200 for it now so I've been looking at alternatives and came across the emulator route on a raspberry pi3 using retropie, just wondered if anyone has done one of these before, it looks simple enough but not being all that tech savvy Id like a back up brain to pick.

I did it a couple of years ago using something like a fire stick (basically a dongle with a smart phone graphics processor running android).
I'm no tech head but still found it pretty easy to do provided you follow the youtube vids correctly.
After that it was easy to install emulators and download roms and then I just used an x box controller and I was away.
I expect it's pretty similar with the pi and has the added bonus of making a sweet torrent rig.

I have no idea what language either of you are speaking but if you want to play retro games I bought a brand new console called a Retro-Trio which plays original Nes, Snes and Megadrive cartridges. You can also use original controllers with it but it comes with two Snes style ones. It's great, plugs straight in your modern flat screen TV. Works perfectly and you get to play the real original games. I was playing Mariocart on it this afternoon. Was about £70 I think.

Yep I have a raspberry pi 3 with retropie running a 128g attract mode. Has about 15,000 games on it.

I feel not enough people know about the raspberry pi. Youtube raspberry pi, retropie and attract mode and you'll never look back!

The great thing about running emulators is there are tonnes of fan made games (some are really good) and you can also have a go at making your own.

A few years back I made some custom Mario Kart tracks, I called this one "He's no good to me dead"

Ok, still none the wiser chaps. What is a Pi3 ? What is a retropie ? What is an emulator ? I really like the old games, Ive got a fair few but only played through consoles - PS2, XBOX 360 and the Retro Trio. Interested to hear about other options :?:

@robstyley a pi3 is a Raspberry pi a tiny little computer that you can buy for around £20-30
Retropie is a kind of retro gaming os for the pi, instead of the games in hard form you load them up as roms.
I'm no expert and probably got that all wrong I will hunt down the YouTube video that I found

I just ordered an Everdrive for my megadrive, £45 all in and I can load it up with every game ever made.

They make them for ever cartridge based console up to the N64

Interesting.. thanks Gorneesh. Will have to have a look at that. I like the idea of having access to thousands of retro games. Thing is I like playing through my TV with proper controllers. Will look into it

Look up ETA Prime on youtube, he has easy to follow videos on the set up and running of Retopie on the Raspberry pi

So last night I managed to set up and installed retropie, what a great little bit of kit.
My only issue now is why my rooms keep doubling up I'm finding this bit more complicated than I thought.

How are you adding roms to your pi?

Every time you put a memory stick in it will copy what's on there to the sd card, not overwrite it. If you want to avoid duplicates you would have to wipe the sd card and re-add the roms again. Deleting roms from the memory stick and transfering again doesn't wipe them from the sd card.

The best way to add roms is through the network (if your pi has wi-fi). Then you can access the actual rom folder on the sd card and delete or add that way.
