This is possibly in the future for me, just putting the question out there for now.

First 12 12 backs, is it feasable to be able to get these all as reseals? obviously this would be done over a lengthy period of time

for me the collecting is def on a budget andd if going down this path just wondered if its possible to get all the 12 backs on reseals, as from a financial point of view that would be do able for me over time.

I dont have an issue with reseals, as whatever I buy would be keepers, for display for me, therefore putting them in star cases would look great, but given the prices now, even reseals are expensive, maybe go down the route of buying the card and bubble and figure separately in some cases and resealing yourself.

would be interested to hear opinions?

This is by far the cheapest way top get a run. Prices on cardbacks have risen, but still the cheapest option. It is very possible to do a whole reseal/budget run. Ryan on here did it I believe and they all looked great. The way I see it ..original cardback...bubble..figure..someone elses glue.

Are you talking about Palitoy or Kenner? Palitoy will rape you more.

Not Palitoy Todd, just opening a can of worms with the price of the palitoy cardbacks now.

I am of the same opinion, as long as everything is original, then Im happy, especially as I dont sell things on to upgrade etc, once i have something im happy with its a keeper (the stormy and R2 are still sat firmly with me and will not be going anywhere...EVER!! love em to bits)

I like the idea of putting them together myself as well, there is the search, the snagging of a bargain, then the fiddling about with them, then the finished article, for me its not about the pristine condition, but the original components, if they are a little creased, a small ding/crack in a bubble here and there etc, then they are never going to be seen as potential scam pieces, so even when I shuffle from this mortal coil, they wouldnt fall into unscrupulous hands and be scam pieces, so I think this option is for me and is safe for the hobby.

Well reseals are going to get a big vote from me as it's the route I decided to take years ago. :D

I did start out with a full 12 run of MOC Kenner 12 backs but then decided to let them go and get a resealed Palitoy set. In a strange way I prefer resealed ones as I know they've been played with at some point (although mainly it was the price  ), and also I've really enjoyed fixing them up when they've needed some work. I have always wanted to get ones with the least damage so have upgraded along the way which means I've probably had about 3 full sets with multiples of some figures over the years. Hopefully this answers your question about being able to get them Michael as with a little time and patience is totally possible. I also put together a kenner run which was about half the price and fairly quick to do.

The one thing I will say though is that there are a few figures out there that are going to cost more money. Luke,Leia,Han and Ben will probably cost more as well as Darth at times but like everything, if you wait it out I'm sure something will come along at the right price. Also finding them complete with their footer can be a problem so you'll have to think what you want to do about that. I have used an old torn/damaged card back before to make mine in the past although I know people can frown on this (maybe depends on how badly damaged it is?), and it's also something I did along time ago and don't now. You could choose to display them without footers or you maybe try something I did which was to contacted people who sell U-grade figures and ask them if they have any. I did this and scored a whole bunch and although I'm completely against U-grading I figured that if it's been done already I may as well try to make some use for good out of this whole mess. I've even picked up opened cut card bubbles (that were probably used for U-grading) and grafted them onto card backs in the past. This was back when I was struggling to find a few figures and getting desperate. I have also done this since with unopened cut cards which has proved to be quite successful.

Hopefully there's some food for thought there but the short answer is to take your time and go for it! :D

Good luck with the hunt.

Ian

Cheers Ian

Great advice again from both Todd and Yourself.

It is something I will do, for certain, once I have completed my initial wants, the 12 back reseal will be the route for me.
I have promised myself that first 12 complete loose run is my first goal, and at some point the mail away stand, slowly slowly though.

Time is irrelevant though to me as it is a case of as and when I have spare funds( rarely  ) that is when i treat myself to SW, as opposed to trying to channel funds that way, so time is no issue to me.

The footer point is a good one and was not something I had thought about, great point.

Thanks guys for the advice, I'm off now to look at limelights :D

Hello, reseals are not an area I have any knowledge about but it does interest me because as you say it's a possible way to get carded figures you couldn't afford normally. Interested to hear how you go about doing them yourself? You said you would use all original components, card, bubble and figure. So are you looking for cards where the bubble has been carefully removed and the surface of the card has no top surface missing except where the glue was? How do you cover/repair the grey torn bit etc? I suppose scoring the bubble in good condition is the hardest part. Although as someone else said you do see figures in bubbles on cut cards on ebay, there's a 12 back Vader on there at the moment. I've got a really nice Palitoy 12 back Leia card that came with my loose Leia, might try it with that one. Anywhere to get info on bubbles, are all 12 different? If you do it post some photos up mate, would like to see them. What's your opinion on repro cards and bubbles? Shite? I have considered it for the first 12.

Hi Michael,

I to am looking to get the first 20 on reseal. I started with getting the cardbacks last year which are all damaged but look good as a set.

I have now started to look for reseals. I would like to get a mixture eg. Palitoy and Kenner. MOC are just too expensive for me as we'll.

I do not worry to much about the footer, if it comes with one great if not still looks good in a star case to me.

Good luck with your search.

Cheers

Mark

Hi mate

I have a couple of reseals but they are not 12 backs, they a re ESB and ROTJ

Yes I will be looking for decent cards, or even cut/ sliced bubbles

Not too worried about them having small areas that show tear etc.

As and when I get them on the go I will put pics up, but I bumped Ian's thread earlier, take a look at that for some awesome pieces, and some great knowledge and advice...fantastic stuff!

As far as repro cards and bubbles, they are not for me as they are not vintage, it's important to me personally, to have original components and put them back to their former glory ( or as best as I can). I would have loose first 12 on display any day, as opposed to repro cards.

Most of mine are reseals < ROTJ and are Palitoys. It can be done, a lot of patience and help from forum members. Kenners will be cheaper - see Chris's (Ponchobelt's) great Leia on his beater run (and that was fully sealed!).

Good call on the reseals Mike

I'm into these as you know. Great way of collecting and salvaging knackered cards. A lot of my ESB backs look great. You can tell they aren't right if you look closely so I don't believe these cardbacks are damaging the hobby at all.

The only concern I would have is surrounding the origins of some of these reseals. Not sure why they were opened in the first place :? But you know - better in the hands of collectors than in the bin.

Go for it Mike, it's good fun hunting them down.

They can be found when you start looking for them, it's a bit like when you buy a new car and all of a sudden you start noticing that car on the road more than you ever did before. Once you make the decision to start looking for a certain type of item they just have a habit of popping up for sale.

I managed to put together a full set of the first 21 for approx $600 over about two years. Best fun I had collecting since I completed my loose set.

And the looked every bit as good as sealed examples, if you squint.

Here's a tip: when you see an item for sale ALWAYS ask the seller if they have any others for sale that they haven't listed. I'd been searching for an opened Fett and Wally for over a year, I enquired about an opened Stormie GDE asked the seller if he had any others and ended up buying a GDE Luke, Wally and Fett in the one deal. Sold the Luke I already had on Ebay for as much as I'd paid for the three I'd just purchased. This hobby can pay for itself if you can score some good deals like that. Mind you I managed to put this set together when reseals weren't really in vogue, prices can be all over the place it depends (as with everything) on demand.

Good luck with it mate, if I see anything that I think may interest you I'll drop you a PM.
