Hi everybody
I'm a real newbie to collecting Star Wars vintage stuff and only have a few items. I was considering buying some reproduction weapons and accessories for my figures that are missing them but after a search on the forum got the feeling that maybe that was a bad thing to do and maybe I shouldn't support that market.
So I guess my question would be; would buying repro stuff for my own collection and not resale be wrong, and if its not where would the best place to source that stuff be?
Thanks in advance and I hope I haven't annoyed anybody

Your best option is to check out the For Sale section and post on the Wanted section on here. Would you be truly happy with repro stuff? Surely they're still incomplete? :|

Do your research- it's pretty straightforward to identify repros. There's good info on here and the Imperial Gunnery has some very detailed threads. There are also some guides on Youtube.

Hope that helps! :)

Hey bud,

The fun is actually hunting down the original stuff. The repro stuff is just junk unless your thinking about playing with them in a sandpit.

Collecting isn't a race, its just a run and having a set of figures with nearly 40 year old original kit is a much more satisfying that a 50% fake collection of stuff made last week.

Best of luck with it mate- theres always figures for sale on here and other forums.

Make sure you do some research which is also fun and you can also get plenty of advice on here.

Ebay is full of fake stuff so be careful.

Not sure if you are a WUM or guided here by the Facebook thread of the guy who makes the Repro boxes (Darren Blankshot I think his name is).

You could say that these reproes are for your own collection and for display only, but lets say 10 years later you want to sell and you state that the weapons are repro (especially is they are mixed with some originals) the buyer of them would just pass off them as originals. That's the crux of the matter.

For me, don't know how it is for other people on here' collecting vintage figures is a nostalgia thing - a way of connecting with your childhood. Sticking a 90s 00s 10s produced weapon with a figure is just wrong.

That's my two penneth to be ignored (not by yourself maybe!)

Most original weapons are not hard to find, may cost a little more than repros. Repros are obviously not original so have no meaning to the true collector!
Yeh do ur homework on Im Gunnery etc and go for originals! And have fun in the chase :)

Just my advice

Avoid for two reasons. Firstly because they will get mixed up with the rest of your collection and you'll struggle to identify which ones are fake. It may seem a quick and easy fix but buying these things is not good. You will always know that your collection is not 100% vintage, which is how it should be.

Secondly because it's a growing market and you will be supporting it. We've all seen these fake boxes on FB. That's just part of the trade. It's just wrong and goes back to my first point.

Damn it guys, I think you've convinced me to stay away from the repros. It makes sense to only want originals, it just seemed like a difficult thing to do until I found this forum.
It seems like you can find most of the things I could ever want here and from a group of very helpful/knowledgeable people.
I just hope the bank manager doesn't read this.

We were talking about this today. I would say that you could buy 70-80% of the weapons you need for the first 77 for a £5.00 or less - when you look at it this way, there is so little between the cost and you will be increasing the value of the figure should you ever want/need to resell - add a repro weapon and it does nothing for the value - and deep down you will always know it isn't genuine

Yeah, unfortunately the thing I had in mind when I posted this was Droopy's flute from the rebo band. Pretty pricey accessory

Collecting is an addiction you can not stop. So what happens when you 'complete' your loose set ? You look through it and see the reproductions. Then you start replacing them with the genuine articles. Don't waste you money- wait & buy the real things when you can . No rush- after more than 5 years I'm only just finishing off my set.

I've been back collecting for a few years now, finished off my loose collection but still have a few weapons to pick up - Palace, ATST and all Leia's blasters but I am in no hurry, I like that I'm still looking for bits n pieces for my figures.

As others have said - take your time and enjoy it

I am not a big fan of repro accessories.

The real ones are out there, you just have to be patient! People that are selling off childhood collections often have a few hidden gems.

As others have said, once you've completed your collection you're probably going to start collecting the next (and more expensive!) thing anyway, so it might be safest to take your time...
