I purchased most of my collection before I found this forum or really ever bothered to take note of the fact people made reproduction weapons. When I first heard about repro's I wondered why anyone would even bother!

It became quite clear very early as to why and even clearer now when you look at the money people make, it's no so much the ones selling the individual repro's who make the cash but the arseholes who sell complete figures using repro's to boost their sale price. I'm sure everyone here has been stung especially new comers like myself.

I read with interest a post a few days ago on here about a member who cleaned his figures and discovered a few repro's amongst his collection. With much anxiety, today using the float, bounce and visual reference tests, I decided to do the same, with the following results........

RED REPRO'S GREEN AUTHENTIC VINTAGE

To say I'm pissed off is an understatement! All my figures were purchased under the assumption via Ebay ( a lesson learned ) they were with their original vintage weapons with the exception of the three telescoping sabers which I purchased as repro as I couldn't afford originals ( I have marked them as repro ).

Hence this is why this place is invaluable and why the expertise and knowledge the members give on here will help serious collectors avoid dealing with the pricks that ruin an otherwise enjoyable hobby/addiction. I will now mark all these fakes a such until I can replace them with originals which when accomplished I will destroy the repro garbage.

Now searching for all weapons on the Red cloth  Such is life!

Sad to hear that you have been had by the "Repro Retards" Blue Dog (thats my nickname! 8) ) You like it?
I am in a similar postion having collected almost all my figures before I registed on here so i may have to get round to doing the same.

Thanks mate, yeah I decided it's best to purge your collection of this garbage and start fresh with an aim to have everything vintage.

I remember the first time i put together a full loose collection of figures....This Repro crap drove me insane!!!! I would receive item after item with repro weapons that had been described as original :x

I think the trouble is....the majority of people selling on ebay really can't tell the difference between the real stuff and the fake. When they buy it they believe its real and so sell it on as real.

The best sites to gain knowledge are:

http://www.imperialgunnery.com/imperialblasters.htm

http://www.loresdelsith.net/rincon/armeria/index2.htm (This one is quite outdated but still very good for beginners)

Thanks Chewie, I used the Imperial Gunnery site as my visual reference. I guess the only way to lessen the circulation of the repros is to destroy them as found.

The weapons I was most disappointed to find out were fake are the Princes Leia pistol and the Sand Person staff as they are two of my more minty figures.

I think I have 3 spare stormtrooper blasters and 2 spare han blasters lying around. They're yours for €15 shipped if you want them. :)

Edit: might have a spare emperor's staff too but I'd have to check.

Thanks Emeil, I'll probably take you up on that.

Decided I may as well put up a list of the weapons I currently require, I've discovered a couple more since I last posted and a couple of figures had the wrong weapons. :(

I'll post the list of the weapons I need in the Most Wanted Section.

Cheers Ryan

I know it has been said before here, but repros have done nothing but really hurt this hobby. Greedy assholes that don't care about what having a pure vintage item means to true collectors. Its sad. Sorry to hear about your recent repro discoveries... Makes me scared to go through my collection and check on things... especially when you believe that you have all original pieces, and then discover that you have been juked somewhere along the line.
It takes more time to get specific pieces, but I like to try to buy figures lots on Ebay that have obviously been in the attic since the 80's (from a seller that has never listed a vintage item before or list them like this: "Old Star Wars Alien Men In Dark Vader Collector Case"...) You can kinda bank on them being original items then.

I'd suggest you go through your collection and get them all checked  These repro's are getting harder and harder to to tell the difference between as time goes by and they improve their techniques......It might hurt a bit if you find some repro's......But once you've replaced the repro's that you find with originals you'll have the peace of mind knowing that its all legit

i bought repros for a couple of years as the real weapons were very very expensive! ive since upgraded all my weapons to originals. i bought a pop r2d2 sabre for £20 last year i only payed this as it was the last original weapon i needed . luck favoured me when i bought a buy it now nikto figure with a original black endor blaster for £0.99p which i paired up with luke poncho. it is ridiculous what loose weapons go for! i have been stung over a few times sellers claiming the weapons are original but there not, most of us have been had!
