Both have the same sub grades, yet one is an overall 85 and the other an 80. The overall 85 sells for £2,378.82 more - WHY?????????

Different coloured hair most likely, either that or all sanity has officially left the planet.

Well i learned that the overal grade can be different even with the same subgrades as for on ethe subgrade could be an 85, but leaning towards an 90 (meaning great shape) whilst the other could be an 85 leaning towards an 80, but just better than an 80. So that's why you can have the difference between the overal grades.

Having that said, i don't know anything about tri logo's and their current market value, but as pointed out by ODB, they first one is a blonde luke and the second one a brown hair luke.
So could it be that a blonde luke on a tri logo card is a rarity??? (it's a question, as i really don't have a clue).

I really don't think this is to do with rarity of the hair colour (I have seen equal amounts of both) I think it's just a case of people seeking perfection at whatever cost.

As pointed out, the grades of both pieces are the same..this could mean if the £400 one was sent in again it might even score an 85 (bit of a card clean up/different grader etc) which would make them equal as far as overall grade - it has happened.

If this sale is genuine and someone is prepared to pay that amount for an extra 5 points on a label from a 3rd party grading company then yes the world has gone mad.

You would think anyone rich enough to be able to splash that kind of money out on a toy would realise the value of the money they are spending and not be so quick to part with it on something that isn't actually worth it..guess not!

I wonder if a lot of the Brian Toy prices were higher because of the reserves they put on them - I was watching a lot of these go last week and quite a few didn't make reserve.

The other thing to consider is that with Brians Toys in the US then they will appeal to our American cousins - some of whom are not always keen to deal with those abroad - I am not sure if HothTony's card was available worldwide but if not then it wouldn't have even appeared on ebay.com

Agreed, when an item goes for a stupid amount it doesn't mean they are all now worth that much. It just means 2 people with a lot of money were fighting over it, and it doesn't necessarily mean either person is stupid either - £5, £500, or £5000 are all the same to a rich person, small change. I'm sure there are people in the world who's time is literally worth more than money so are happy to pay whatever just to get something when they want it. Can you really picture Bill Gates setting up snipes and trawling through incorrect categories to save a few quid

I'd rather have a mind full of information than a wallet full of money in this hobby.

I'm actually arguing with a rich collector on FB as we speak, it astounds me how rich people can be so annoyingly dim yet have so much money. Makes me wonder how people get rich in the first place if they can't even spell properly or think logically

Why did I have to be born into a working class poor ass family set up :( lol

And on a more serious note, I wonder if I am still eligible for adoption at 29?

I remember the reserve on the Trilogo Luke from Brian's Toys being reached by the time it got to £500 quite early on in the auction.

I still don't get why it went for so much, unless some bidders were 'having fun' with Brian's Toy's who I know from certain members on RS are not exactly fans of BT's.

I can tell you when I was looking for a blond hair original luke it was a bitch, and I always see brown hair lukes. Joe I think there are way less blond hair lukes out there and this is the first afa 85 I have seen.

Jeff

In my experience the blond hair variant is a lot rarer, I have had a few brown haired ones but only ever had one blond hair which is in my collection.

Having read this, am I to understand that this Blonde Hair Luke, Tri logo card is harder to find so...? thanks

This is the exact reason why the overall grade came out as it has, funnily enough I just spoke to Steve yesterday about it & that was his answer, not this card but why overall grades can be different that sub grades on like for like sub graded items.
