Another big manics fan here, seen em a fair few times, though sadly not for a good few years now. Absolutely love james' vocals, they define the manics sound. Did any of you guys ever get to see them play with Richie? Best gig was the forum Kentish town off the back of everything must go. Holy bible their best album for me, Richie was an incredible writer and the whole military style was amazing

Otherwise seen pearl Jam many times and gomez plus numerous Glastonbury festivals. They were the days, the hazy days, definitely need to get back to Glastonbury before it ceases to be, which won't be long, such an amazing vibe.

Never got to see them with Richey (I was 10 years old when he disappeared!)... Got into them when I heard a Design For Life the following year and saw them for the first time in 1998 when my dad took me!

Going to Glastonbury this year! Taking my son too!! Should be an interesting and sober affair compared to my first Glastonbury in 2003...

I saw the Maniacs when they first burst onto the scene at the Cambridge Junction. Just bought Motown Junk on 12" so was chuffed to see them, in all honesty the show was pretty average, they were selling make-up kits on the merchandise stall for fellas to 'glam' themselves up pre show.

Lost interest in them after that, especially when he carved his arm up in response to an NME review by Steve Lamacq.

Wow! Envious though having seen footage of that era I can understand why opinion was divided! The 4 Real incident was pretty iconic. If a bit stupid!

Lamaq questioned their integrity, basically saying he didn't buy into their angst and that they were fake. Richie's reaction was a crazy way of putting his point across but he was a self harmer and the one with the demons.

As far as seeing them early on that must have been cool and very raw, Richie was renowned for not exactly being the best musician but they would have had a great stage presence.

Really wish I could have seen Richie live......... And Kurt........ And Layne......... And Jeff

My other half's dad saw Manics with Richey a few times (including the Astoria in 1994) and Nirvana in London in 89 and at Reading 92. So envious! She always moans that he didn't take her along (though she wouldn't even been 5 in 1989...)

In regards to catching artists who has passed away, I went to the last day of a swamp of a Reading festival and saw Nirvana. The crowd went bananas, although I confess, my spirits were a bit down after a day of appalling weather and sick of the knee deep mud and shite. Although that is a celebrated concert, I enjoyed far more seeing The Ramones (supported by The Damned) at Brixton. They were awesome. Hey ho...

My brother was at the Reading 92 performance they were headliners with Public Enemy. it was their last UK performance and Cobain came on stage in a wheel chair, the rumour all weekend was that he had been hospitalised and would not appearing.

Nirvana/Cobain never really saw the fuss, there were a lot of those Sub Pop guys doing the same thing to better effect.

Still hes made a perfect poster boy for teen angst and self loathing for many a generation to come since.

The Manics have itchy feet after a two year break from touring, so I understand, and a new album on the way too. My Mrs. that got me into them, she saw them in some tiny dive in Margate years ago. O2 was the first time I've seen them, and even with average seats, they were fantastic. I. am. an. architect! Genius.

Yeh, Metallica can be a bit flat. Saw them on the Black album tour and they were decent but no where near as good as an awesome Slayer or blistering Megadeth (supported by Pantera!) all 3 shows within a couple of months of each other. Saying that, saw the Metallica fan show at the O2 for £5 and they were brilliant.

Grew up listening to these guys and still do now. For me personally I feel that Jeffs death was the most untimely. With Kurt and Layne they ended their own lives and were in a bad place but Buckley's death was accidental and he had so much more to offer. One completed studio album which is amazing and then the partially complete sketches albums that are great but are not 100% his work. Thankfully there is a load of live stuff which displays his true talents. Sadly loss

On Richie, I reckon he's still alive somewhere, I'm with the people who think he ended up in some monestry somewhere. How else could he have disappeared of the face of this earth without trace :?

For me the one performance of nirvana that I would have wanted to be at was the unplugged, wow spine tinkling stuff, as is the AIC performance. My musical god is Mr Vedder, his ukulele solo album is a great album, the guy is very talented and I still love all of pj's material

i saw them in 1993 or 4 with Bon Jovi, Little Angels and Billy Idol at MK. Not my musical taste at all.

They came on at 11.30 after the shockingly shite Thin Lizzy (obviously minus Phil Lynott). I mean, really, what's the point in that? Anyway, It was just way too late and people were leaving in droves to catch the last trains. Rose just says 'it's rock n roll'. What a bell end :evil: He appears to have nothing but contempt for his fans and clearly doesn't live in the real world. This whole thing with Justin Beaber at the moment sounds the same. A jumped up little turd who has lost the plot!
