I wouldn't rule out trilogos, you find all kinds of weird figures on them. Is this the only R2 with a dull dome? Shouldn't it be fairly easy to browse through lots of MOC photos and look for them?

POCH R2's have dull dome, and some Lili Ledy. I'll try to do some searching or the next few days as I'd love to get to the bottom of it.
