One of my heros and one of the true greats of rock n' roll passed away today.
If you don't know who he is, he was the drummer and joint lead singer of arguably the greatest band there ever was (musically speaking), The Band.
An incredible talent and compellingly charismatic. He'll be sadly missed.

R.I.P Levon.

Joe [EDIT: and Edd] sorted it so we can now embed videos on here. (finally!)
So this will be the first ever embedded video on this site and how fitting that is has nothing to do with Star Wars.
Just wanted to post The Band's most famous song. Featured in the film 'Easy Rider'. Easily one of the greatest songs of all time...
Levon Helm on lead vocals for the first 3 verses (and drums).

Well Joe just passed your suggestion on to Edd really

Fantastic choice Emiel. Another classic. 8)
Have you got/heard their 2nd album? "The Band" AKA "The Brown Album"

The version you posted in from their film "The Last Waltz" 1976 (not 78 as the youtube poster suggests). It was directed by Martin Scorsesse and is regarded by most as the greatest film about a band ever made. I've watched it at least 5 times and anyone who claims to love music really needs to see it. At least once. 8)

The Brown Album is a classic. Their first album Music From Big Pink is great and has The Weight on but for me the follow up is a much better album and would be in my top 10 of all time. Highlights include - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down/Look Out Cleveland/Across the Great Divide/Up On Cripple Creek & Rag Mama Rag. All quality.

Fark how did I miss this thread, man that's sucks. Love The Band, spent many lazy Sundays listening to them and The Allman Brothers , hate hearing news like this.

Apart from the two listed above here's another of my favourites from these amazing musicians. RIP Levon

The brilliant, late, Richard Manuel on lead vocals there singing Dylan's 'I Shall Be Released'. Always loved that song. The Band had so much talent it's scary. We'll never see the likes of a band like this again.
