Guys,

My computer has gone into meltdown the past few days. Its a Compaq with Windows 7 and its got 2gb of ram. Basically I need to ask if anyone has a free clean up tool that they can advise which will hopefully clean this up and make it run faster again. Its taking ages to load a single page.

Thanks chaps

For simple cleaning of olf registry entries / temp files / browser caches try CCleaner (Free) - https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
For defragmenting your hard disk try defraggler - https://www.piriform.com/defraggler

Alternatively I've also used http://www.auslogics.com/en/

you cant beat a factory wipe :)

also look at your running programs in task manager, maybe your RAM or CPU is maxed out, there could be a million causes for what you are experiencing, use CCleaner as mentioned, run your AV and spyware tools and defrag. check your CPU and RAM in task manager as that will show you anything going on in the background (CTRL-ATL-DELETE) and select task manager or right click on the tray at bottom of screen.
