Hello gents

Right then, after a truly eventful start to 2013 I have decided to finish this year on a high and propose to my long term girlfriend...

Trip to New York is booked for mid November and my plan is to propose somewhere half decent over there!

My question to you guys (I know there are romeos/studs on here) is how to do it,I don't know a size to buy a ring for her etc...

Let me know how you boys have done it,give me some pointers etc...

I am probably the most unromantic ****er out there!

Cheers stef

Mate, NYC is the perfect place to drop the big question. Women Love the place, it's like they're in an episode of Sex and the City! :)

I proposed in Madison Square Park underneath the Flat Iron Building, needless to say she said yes. And the ruddy great Rock and Platinum ring helped a bit too. :D

If you want any advice on the ring drop me a PM as Both My Father and Sister are in the Jewellery Business, they'll do you a very good deal. Probably save you enough to buy a few 12 backs :D

I proposed on Christmas Eve couple of of years back. Left one present for the end as we were putting them under the tree at night. Will you marry me? Aww :) Like you i had no idea of ring size so i bought a cheap but nice looking Argos one. Lucky i did cos it turns out my wife has match stick fingers and it was way too big. After crimbo we went out and she chose a nice ring that didn't cost the earth. Some people go way overboard on it. If i had a woman that wanted a 3 grand ring ..well i wouldn't be with someone like that.

As for trying to size the ring you might want to ask another woman at work or something for their advice. That's what i did as i had no idea about sizes. You could ask her mother maybe. Fingers might be similar. Just an idea.

Mate.............................DON'T DO IT!

YOU'RE TOO YOUNG!

Leave that marriage **** till you're at least 90, or to the other hen-pecked idiots

How not to do it: engagement ring in a box of chocolates, mmm she might not see this- tie a pink ribbon around it & tape it to the top of the box, leave on kitchen counter. She comes home, returns from kitchen- mouth full of chocolate & asks "what I did wrong??" Pink ribbon & diamond obviously not big enough!!! :|

None of that romantic **** for me

Now bear in mind here I was young...

Part way through oral sex. Stop - rush out of the room to get a rose and cheap ring that was to be a temporary one (never get a proper one since! Been about 16 / 17 years and still no sign of marriage    )
Got a yes. Finished off. Job done.

Would have gone the caveman route if I could have found a proper club.

Don't listen mate  If you want to propose then go for it. Our wedding day was certainly in the top five days of my life. Too many moments to compare it to, but great day with all the family and friends together. Marriage isn't life changing but i do feel more respectable ..sort of :?

get her pissed, nice meal and wine, give her a good one in the hotel, walk onto balcony propose (your in new york so anything will work)

plus if she is pissed she will always remember the proposal as awesome and romantic

My wife always says she wished I had proposed on our trip to new york.

In terms of locations, the top of the empire state building is pretty minty, and noisy, not much romantic atmosphere in my opinion.

Top of the rock (the rockerfella tower) is much more romantic with a great view of central park.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thats the funniest thing I've heard for ages. Can't stop chuckling.

Ring size is important mate

To big and it slips off and too small and it's pretty much useless. My missus knew I was going to propose so told me her ring size - but still got it wrong.

If you're in new york, she'll be wanting to go to Tiffanys...

Biting my tongue here......

Aww - Weasel you're mellowing in your old age - I set that up perfectly for you

Good luck mate.

I love New York. If I was you I'd ask her to marry you outside the Ghostbusters HQ. it's a 5 minute walk up from the world trade centre.

If you asked me there, I'd defo say yeah.

No Top of the Rock at night with the Empire State Building light up in the background. Guaranteed yes.
