Premier League 2019/2020 Thread

That's what seems weird about it, surely any revenue is better than none? Or forcing people to illegally stream the games? I will generally watch matches legally if I can using Now TV, but for the games that are not shown at all there is no other choice than being naughty. And in 2019 they can't expect people not to.

also some games are sold in bundles - so it could be part of some larger deal, but I don't know what as I no expert in football rights!

This ^^^^

PL rights are sold in packages. They bundle them up so each package has some attractive games and some shite. They then flog them off.
I'm not sure even combined that the BBC and ITV could afford one package. Although I'm with Edd, I don't understand why the PL/SKY/BT don't just do each game PPV. I would much rather pay, say £5 to watch Liverpool on a given weekend (or say City Chelsea this weekend) than have to pay Sky/BT however much a month only to be offered Aston Villa Newcastle. Who in the name of good **** wants to watch the latter game? Bar Villa and Newcastle fans I doubt more than 10k ppl will watch that game.
The only danger is Sky/BT get greedy and rather than a few quid a game go for £10. I won't pay £10 four times a month to watch Liverpool (or A.N.Other "big" game) and I doubt many others will. But a few quid a game is fine. That way you can watch the games you want without bankrupting yourself. All Sky/BT need to do is work out what % of their monthly sports package bill is PL rights related and then work out how many people are going to be willing to pay to watch each team (granted that may take a few weeks to work out, but after they have done it a few times they will know) then you set your prices accordingly so people aren't paying masses more but they get to see the games they want. The PL benefits as more ppl see games and thus they can charge more to advertisers and sponsors, the clubs benefit as more people watching means more kit and paraphernalia sales and possibly more ticket sales too. BT/Sky make just as much as before, possibly a little more, and you and I get to watch the games we want every weekend. win, win, win, win!

I also agree the 3pm rule is bollocks. Especially for those of us who live on a different ****ing island!

Bubble will burst with the TV rights, its not sustainable, the 3pm rule is more out of date than shell suits and all these new streaming platforms will dip into the PL at some point and show Sky what a rip off they really are.

It would be interesting to see what others pay for their Sky Sports package, I pay £30 a month, I get Sky entertainment included with that. Everyone I know pays something different for exactly the same package. I've just ditched BT Sport as I was paying to much combined with Sky and my contract with them is up in January, so going to try and get a new deal then.

I get my broadband from BT so I get BTsport free, as I am self employed and work from home some times the Broadband goes against tax. So mine's free! lol

I don't even wanna know what I pay Sky though. Too much

I'm the same, put BT through my work but I was still paying £15 a month for BT Sport. So I phoned them up and said it's to much like you do with Sky and they always say ok we will see what we can do and you get a better deal. But BT just said fine cancel it!

Yeah it was a right stitch up! I just hung up not knowing what to do.

Interesting first match with Jose at the helm. Good to see him drop Rose and Sissoko to the bench, have always thought both were over-rated. In fact it all went down hill very quickly when they both came on. Dier looked tired after about 20 minutes so he might need a rethink on that one. And a whole load of nothing from Eriksen when he came on again so probably best we call it a day on him now.

The first half was enjoyable, even though arguably West Ham were shocking for the first 70 minutes. It's going to take Jose some time to fix the confidence because yet again Spurs threw away a comfortable lead, and if not for a marginal offside would have drawn the match (or possibly lost if it went on a few minutes longer.) I don't know what it is, they just don't have that confidence of Liverpool or City etc, even when comfortably in front they **** themselves and cave in at any pressure.

So overall very nice to finally get a win, but the cracks are still there and it's bloody typical that they had 5th place on a plate and still managed to blow it somehow. He has work to do!

Yes, I agree with most of that. Overall Spurs were the better side, but for the last 20 minutes or so West Ham unquestionably were. One of my long-standing bug-bears with Spurs is their seeming inability not to switch off for the last 30 minutes when winning games. They were 3:0 up and dominating, yet after the third goal they started acting like they'd already won the game; that there were only 30 seconds left instead of 30 minutes. They stopped all the positive play and good work they had been doing for the first hour and instead sat back and invited needless pressure, gifting West Ham possession and confidence. They started back-passing (my number one pet hate for Spurs) and sending it back to Gazzaniga, and generally relaxed into lazy, comfortable and far less effective play. If there's one thing I'd like to see Mourinho change at Spurs it's that. If he can motivate them to play right until the final whistle, even when leading comfortably, they will become a seriously threatening side.

Arsenal were shite, Emery is ****ing clueless, outshot nearly 2 to 1 by Southampton at home? Do me a favour

The Copa libertadores final was a decent game with an amazing finale!

Oh, and if anyone is using Now TV for sport then their Black Friday offer is on now, £20 a month for 6 months.

Spurs fans, I wouldn't get too excited about that performance - we were truly shocking for the first 70 and basically handed you the match on a plate. Never seen anything like it before in a game v Spurs. The last 20 are probably a better measure for you.

Don't get me started on Roberto  Was pleased with Antonio. Rice, Snodgrass and Noble (in fits and starts) gave it a go. The rest were absolutely woeful :?

Phew that was a lucky eacape by Ole yesterday, if SFU had won-2-0 I think Poch would have been their new manager this morning! Maybe already too little too late.

He has a genuine shout to be the worst keeper the PL has ever seen. Ever. I don't watch WH every week, but whenever I see highlights and he is in nets, for almost every goal I am looking at him and thinking "you should be doing a LOT better". Spurs/Son's first goal went straight through him FFS!
Did he not punch one into his own net a few weeks ago? I'm a bit behind on MOTD and MOTD2.

Emery, Silva and Pelligrini all seem to be in a race to get sacked. The first two in particular are doing very badly. Emery still has no clue as to what his best 11 is, or what formation suits his players best. After 18 months that's inexcusable. Silva has spent huge sums and taken Everton backwards. Silva's track record is starting to look questionable. After a few months things start to go south and he doesn't seem to be able to stop it.

As for Copa Libertadores, how Falmengo won that I will never know. That was daylight robbery on a scale not seen since Utd won the CL in 99. They were massively second best for 85 mins and yet won. Amazing.

I was at the game yesterday and I can honestly say that was the worst I have seen Man Utd play in the first half. I don't think you can blame OGS for that first half display, the players have to take responsability. The only thing I can blame OGS for is picking Phill Jones, probably the worst player in the Premier League.

Looked like it was all going pear shaped for Jose last night, but what differentiates him is that he realised what was wrong early on and had the balls to make a substitution after 25 minutes which completely changed the game. I don't think Poch would ever have done that, he was too nice to his players.

I'd be more worried as to quite how you go 2 down to a team whose record away from home in the CL is only marginally better than my record of bedding super models!

Still, a win is a win and 3pts is all that matters at this stage.

Liverpool making things tough for themselves as usual. Some day it would be nice if they could just win a game in a relaxed fashion, say 3 or 4-0. You know, like City do!

The 9 or 10 games in the next month are really gonna stretch them, especially if they keep having to score late winners, or have nervy games like last night. It's all about energy conservation. If you have to fight to the last minute you use up more energy than if you are already 3 or 4 up.

Whoever draws Liverpool in the FAC will have a very cushy draw as there isn't a chance in hell Jurgen will field anything even close to full strength side. It will be pure Carling/Carabo cup.
