Postage to the states

Anyone know the best service to use to send something over the pond?

Just been down the PO and told they can only insure it for £500 and if i want it insured for full value (£1750) it has to go by Parcelforce and that'll be a super reasonable £120!
I can only assume for that price it gets its own seat in first class on Concorde.

It's just a single MOC, so box is about 15" by 10" by 6"

I would avoid Royal Mail for this sort of package - I had a terrible experience sending a £1000 MOC to the States. Everyone had advised FedEx - not sure on their pricing but they are supposed to be far more effective

Weasel, I had to post 2 sets of my Star Wars Lego over to Singapore, one being £410, the other being £1070 I used parcel2go and both time's used FedEx. The £1070 parcel cost me £100 to send but that was fully insured and tracked to their door with a signature on delivery. I would always use them if sending abroad again and the parcel is of value.

DHL offer a good service,I recently sent a figure to Canada insured for £5,000 it cost £160 of which £100 was insurance 2% ,it was tracked all the way and took 3 days,if it's peace of mind you want this service is a good bet

i have used parcel2go and interparcel to ship to the states and in fact they both used fedex for the job , the cost of shipping the first parcel i sent was £65 but it was delivered in 4 days , well worth it :!:

Forgot to say both my parcels arrived in Singapore in 3 days which is what the delivery time stated was. Not bad for it going half way round the world.

Cheers guys, I've had a look on the Parcel to go site, but I can't see anywhere that even mentions insurance. I'm working on the principle that if it's not mentioned it aint included.
Am I being blind?

Solved the insurance thing. Appears Fed Ex don't cover Norn Iron! :roll:

You add the insurance as you go through the process of buying the postage purchase.

Apart from that I'm stumped as to where else to go for postage.

Looks like it's stupid money or no insurance. Not ****ing daft enough to send it without insurance........

What always worries me, say if something did go missing in the post and the buyer can prove they never received it.

You refund the buyer and then you have to jump through hoops to get your money back from the courier.

I'm sure Royal Mail only reimburse the full cost of the item if you can prove that's how much you paid for it in the first place, not what you sold it for.
