Placement of punch

Being a Norwegian, most of my purchases are done online, and in addition to that, I only collect non graded items.

When I do my purchases I usually use photos of graded items to just do a quick verification that everything looks okay. Waffle patterns are usually the best sign (thou some 12backs dont have the waffle pattern). Of course, colour, bubbles, fonts and other things are used as a reference, but I find punch placements to be hard to use for any reference.

Is there any general rule applying to punches ? Seems like they are placed slightly different places and come in different shapes. Are they different due to different production places or is there a change from lets say a 12bk A, B and C ?

All input on the topic is greatly appreciated

They can be all over the place:

can be different from different factories ( HT vs HG )

on revenge cards I only just noticed 2 different punch holes. "Made in Hong Kong" has perforated punch hole above 'Collect all 48', "Made in Hong Kong K" has a 'smooth' punch hole that cuts through 'Collect all 48'

Thanks for the very informative reply :)

Guess punch placement really isnt to be taken too much into consideration when checking mocs

Think James covered this for the most part, but I think I read somewhere that the punch location is dictated by the figures weight so that the card will hang straight on the wrack, which would seem logical, so again - a bit all over the place, maybe compare say a jawa punch with a Gamorrean Guard?.

Yeah, true that, however looking at lets say a 12 back Vader, it seems like the punch is not in the same place on all of them

Doing a google picture search shows that punches on the same figure are not in the same exact spot
