Photobucket Ransom.

I'm worried about the accounts of those who are no longer with us like Craig and Andy. Those photos could be lost forever.

I just checked Andy's thread and his images were hosted on his NTL webspace which is now dead, nothing to do with Photobucket going down. I don't suppose anybody saved his photos?

This is a real pain but Ed's advice to wait before doing anything rash is sensible

Postimage is another good alternative but there is a big risk of any free service having a change of heart in the future.

One alternative for some people is to create albums on Facebook and use the links from them to add the images here

I always had a feeling this will happen, can't pin point how and why, hence I never have much on Photobucket!!

Nightmare. Are they not cached with your host, Edd? It wouldn't necessarily make sense for them to be cached on the server but certainly worth a check in some temp files.

No sadly as they were stored on a third party site they are not in any of my back ups or online caches. It's possible somebody on here who viewed them recently might still have them cached in their browser, if you do please save them!

Darren might be the best bet but I don't know how often he is on here i think he was more active on RS, but that was a few years ago.

we were just speaking about this over at tantivexi . I hate photbucket on a personal level . it has given me problems for years

What a royal pain in the backside, I've been with them around ten years now no warning just bam every image gone from the forums I visit, last few months have been a nightmare with multiple pop up adds and tags not working when you try to click on them, now this
I wouldn't mind a charge but they can whistle for $400!
giving the suggested site a go, but will hold off uploading every image as I have hundreds of prop pictures etc I've made over the years, don't want to have to go through this again

Unbelievable that they create a site that has a specific feature to embed images in other sites and then after they've gained a large volume of those embedded images that screw all the users that could've been customers IF they'd dome it more sensibly and over a time period!

Actually that's a really good point. All the embedding options they give you as standard supports the fact that they INTENDED people to share the images on third party sites. If so it suggests that their endgame is this exact scenario: users become dependent on their hosting, websites rely on it, the service is suddenly withdrawn without warning and they issue what can only be considered an extortionate demand. Photobucket is no more than legitimate ransomeware. Dirty, filthy, rotten bastards.

What a nusence, how can I get my avatar back? $399 for the upgrade, ok hold on I'll just get my wallet.

Send me your credit card details Richard and I'll sort it out today.

Avatars are overrated anyway.

As a new user I looked at photobucket when I couldn't view half of the photos in the posts. Some of the links I clicked on in the photobucket site pinged up virus alerts and threats. Ran from there straight away.

Reading your posts here I think I'll post imagery and manage content through the forum itself until it all blows over, or a better service arrives.
Cheers
Jay

Yeah I git some virus alerts as well from photo bucket, what the hell is going on their?

Any virus alert through your browser is a scam, it's basically a really dodgy way of making you install software you don't need. Unfortunately the internet is very spammy these days, I highly recommend using a plugin like AdBlock:

I would also recommend something like Tab Cookies to manage your cookies as well. I've used both of them for so long that it comes as quite the shock when I use a browser that doesn't have them, ads, ads every ****ing where.

Started to notice even more pictures disappearing from here, it's a real shame as I suspect a lot of the vintage showcase threads are just going to be gone forever.

Ian

my showcase photos have gone! well thats annoying

boo boo photobucket

what about the our fallen comrades showcases? have they gone too :(
