Paypal eCheque - Why?

I've just sent a payment to somebody and it's gone as a bloody eCheque! No idea why, this has never happened before. It was a gift to a guy in the US but I've done this before plenty of times. Also, oddly it didn't use any of the balance in my paypal account (there wasn't enough to cover the whole transaction, but some.)

It says I can 'make future payments instant by adding a card' but I already have a card registered, with a confirmed address. Have done for years.

Any ideas?

They do that sometimes, i think its a validation check on the account, they wait until the funds have come from your bank into paypals, then transfer the money over, because its a gift its not a transaction/sale.

Im not 100% on that but its happened to me before.

It's not another ebay/Paypal 'scam' ? ****ers make you send a cheque that you didn't ask for & in fine print it costs you a few dollars for the privilege

Card hasn't expired has it?

I think you are right pal.
I had this the other month. A credit card i had linked to my pay-pal account had expired and I could still send payments via bank transfer but they were e-cheques.
Had the new credit card lying around and as soon as i updated the details in my paypal account everything was back to normal.

No card hasn't expired. Got a very **** answer from Paypal - they can't tell me why and I should try again next time

:| that sucks,,, but i never had the e-cheuqe problem but i did have the balance split problem.

I went to pay a U.S. seller and i paypal would not let me combine my balance with my credit card to pay. As in i need to pay $25 dollars from my balance which just had enough to cover that and $25 from the c.card but Paypal wouldnt let me do it.

Normally it would take from the pp balance and find the remainder in the credit card.
so this time i had to make two seperate payments from each of the payment methods. which ,, you guessed it cost me double fees.

which aint much but its the princepal.
