This was the last email I sent parcelfarce:-
Hi there, I was able to pay the customs charges on this parcel after contacting my local depot today. The lady I spoke said that the advice quoted in your reply below is incorrect however:-

I would also recommend that you contact the depot in advance of doing this on 08700 844 XXX.
If you have not received a letter 7 days after the parcel has arrived within the UK advising of the customs charges please contact your local depot on the number above. You will need the parcel tracking number and confirmation of the recipients address along with a contact name and telephone number.

The email doesn't say what the loal depot is, or indeed what the number for calling them is. I was able to find this information from your website however. The lady at the depot said I have to wait 7 working days after the 2nd letter requesting customs charges are paid before contacting the local depot to make payment without a letter. This would be tomorrow. How I am meant meant to know when or how many letters have been sent to me, given that none have actually arrived? Also, I was only able to find out that the package was being held at the local depot after requesting tracking details from the sender. I have spent maybe 2 hours on hold to the depot this week and last week to get through and be able to make the customs payment. Several calls ended with an auotmated voice saying that the depot was busy and that I was being directed back to the call centre. Several just ended in the call being disconnected with no message at all. All after being on hold for 10+ minutes at a time. I was considering actually going to the depot in Charlton given I couldn't get though this morning, but the opening times are not published on your website, you have to phone the local depot to find out when they are open. (which turns out to be until 12.30pm during the week and not open at all at weekeends according to a blog I found with someone elses expereinces about going there).
All in all, I found it very difficult to make a payment for the customs charges on this parcel. The lady at the depot said she would make an exception this one time and let me pay the charges a day early. Given the parcel has been in the UK for 17 days, that's not much of a saving.
Thinngs I could recommend from my experiences to improve this process would be as follows:-
1) Better maps with local train stations and directions plus opening times lisited for all local depots on the parcel force web site.
2) Better contact information and improvement in the advice in the response emails you send out
3) An overhaul of the call answering system for the Charlton depot
4) Allowing custom charges to be paid without a notification letter. I have known that custom charges have ben due on this parcel for 2 weeks after I contacted the sender of the parcel and got the international tracking number from them. I understand that security is your concern here, but if you do not alllow the delivery address to be changed in this circumstance then there is no risk of people trying to pay customs charges on someone elses parcel and then redirecting it.
