I have a Palitoy Walrus Man and the bottom edges of the bubble taper down towards the lowest part of the stem, but on the example above they are horizontal. Is this a clever 'recard turned into cut card' scam or did bubble shapes vary on these cards?

That cut card has been up for a while and looks legit to me although I'm not sure what happened with the bubble difference you mention.

Both look fine. It could be camera angles. Bubbles which are the same can look quite different depending on camera angle.

Thanks for the replies guys, and looking at pics online its interesting to see that there seem to be two bubble types for Palitoy Walrus Man, one with the taper at the bottom and one with more of a right angled bottom.

Here's the taper:

Here's the right angled:

Something that I've always been meaning to ask is this - what's thought to be the origin of cut cards?

There are several theories to why some ended up as cut cards. Parents would cut them so they were easy stocking fillers, the factory store would sell them to employees, but cut the card so they weren't sold on for retail prices, and some very early collectors would cut them for easy storage...
