Palitoy Q&A

So maybe it is 12 backs or maybe the box is filled with random figures and that was an empty box that they were put in........well this doesn't help things so I guess we'll all have to wait

Ok folks, get ready to "right click save" and then say you knew this

These are the figure product codes I have from price lists and invoices up until 1983, after then the range moved from 33xxx number string and was replaced with a new number string.

Enjoy and helps explain why Dengar is so tough on certain cards :)

33311 48 solid case of C3PO
33312 48 solid case of Vader
33313 48 solid case of Stormtrooper
33321 48 mix case of first 12
33340 48 mix case of first 12
33345 48 mix case of 13-20 <<<< this was what I thought the Vectis case might be.
33346 48 mix case of first 20
33347 48 mix case of first 6 ESB characters
33348 48 mix case of first 10 ESB characters

33362 48 mix case of 31-39 - Dengar not included
33368 24 solid case Darth Vader
33385 24 solid case Stormtrooper
33425 60 mix case of 21-39 approx 12 different figures - Dengar not included
33426 60 mix case of first 18 approx 12 different figures (no R2 or 3PO)
33427 60 mix case of Cloud Car, 4LOM, ATAT Com, Bespin Guard, Luke Hoth, R2, 3PO - approx 5 different.
33429 24 solid case ATAT Driver
33460 24 solid case Luke Hoth

I might find more, but pretty cool to see :)

Could be, or a solid case of a first 12 other than R2, 3PO, Vader or Stormtrooper is possible too.

One thing is for certain, I've never shared the product codes before, so that is an insight into assortments and quantities. I have given away Palitoy paperwork over the years, from memory I know there were codes for Hoth Rebel, Hoth Stormtrooper and possibly others, I'll need to contact the folk and see if they dig out the invoices and let me know the product codes :)

Those codes are awesome. A real dip into the past that I for one never knew anything about.

I'll take 2 x 33349 please Dave. where do I send the £150? :)

Great thread, so much info coming out the moment regarding Palytoy.

ain't that the truth :P

Check this out though, this is a returns form for sending back stock as even back then, at the height of popularity, retailers knew when they were given turkey figures:

'Bad Mix' of 60 of each Ree Yees, Weequay, Bib Fortuna, Squid Head, Chief Chirpa, General Madine and Ackbar

Wow, amazing! Never seen anything like this for Kenner stuff.

Now that's interesting!
I remember several shops around my area that had wall to floor racks full of this mix - Ree Yees and Chief Chirpa being most common. I remember one chain store having NOTHING but Chief Chirpa's on one occasion.

Reading the case notes, these were solid cases of those figures, which I can tell you as a retailer that if I got 60 of the same figure they go back unless it is a good deal :)

Is there any logic as to why they would make so many of a figure that was not major/popular?

Is it just that by the time retailers were feeding back the vast majority of figures were already produced?

Good point. Why not just make more Boba's etc or had the factory's already produced so many tens of thousands 6 months or a year before and they just became peg warmers cos after seeing the film kids knew they were background characters?

Makes the character choices for the POTF line even more incredible when they knew suppliers had the option of sending back cases of peg warmers.

Also, some figures must have been more labour intense production wise, like Bib Fortuna, the plastic armour then getting that coat on around those bloody tentacles - must have been a bitch to make on a large scale compared to a character like Ackbar.

I'm guessing Palitoy had to decide how many of each figure to produce in relation to others rather than it coming straight from Kenner?
