As many of you are aware I'm trying to sell the palitoy first 12 from the time capsule I recently picked up. I've had some interesting questions on ebay which I said I'd take to the experts. Before I do though I thought I'd try here first.
Some interesting points here....

Q1. Why would the Stormtrooper (lots of these on 12A backs), Tusken Raider (again still many), Jawa (considering it was VC and not cloth) and the DSC (rare on 12A) be delayed in shipment / were they the last to be released?

Q2. Why are the only carded palitoy vcj known about in such good condition? Especially as the early cloth with R2 bubble and the footers cards are often (always?) badly damaged. There's the shift from VC bubble to R2 bubble then to the flat 'v' profile bubble where the USA just went from VC to 'V' bubble didn't it and it was all coming from the same HK factory and being carded domestically wasn't it?

Q3. Pali must have had a few loose figs about as they're in the DStar box pics but are VCJ in any other Pali stuff? - they aren't in any of the 1978/79 I've seen - even trade catalogues - the 78 has a prototype DCS, J, TR & poss Strooper (though it looks correct) and there's marvel comics ads w just the 1st 8 - so I guess there was 2 '1st' waves of 8 & 4 or 8 then strooper then the last 3 - the 1st Pali figures ad has strooper stuck at the side).

Q4. Anyone got any photos from Hamley's toy displays 1978-80? THe one in Regent Street?

On 2) Kenner has the transition/r2d2 bubbke too:-

Lots of Troopers on 12A, really :?: I've only seen a couple :!:
The abundance out there r on 12B.
DSC don't know of anyone who has or has seen a sealed 12A example.
A 12A card back has never been confirmed but recently it appears a card back surfaced on eBay but then again it could have been a photo listing error

The guy who contacted me is adamant that 12 back A DSC exists and is surprised that some websites still state it doesn't exist.

It wouldn't surprise me if one turned up-look at the Palitoy VCJ and how long it was thought not to exist!
If he can provide some evidence that would b great

12A dsc came up on eBay at the start of the year with bubbke partially attached. There was no doubt at the time that it was genuine.

Q1: Don't know about the stormtrooper but these 3 were released a bit later ;-)

Yes that is what I mentioned, no question what is in the pic is genuine but was wondering if the back of the card shown was from a diff 12 back  :!: things like that have happened b4

Which is interesting as(apart from the discussed eBay listing) Jawa and DSC have only ever shown up on B cards where as Sand People have shown up on a hell of a lot of A cards as well as B.

Never seen the picture above but does show quite clearly the last 3 released. Seems odd to me that the Jawa isn't VCJ, wonder what the reason behind that was?

One thing on this point (Q 1) that I wasn't aware of was that the Stormtrooper was also delayed. I always though it was only the 3 mentioned but know from contacting Richard (Cc4rhu) who has the Palitoy first 12 competition winner letter that they were only sent 8 figures at first as the others were delayed.

Jason's answered question 2 although I wouldn't read anything into the VCJ bubble being in good shape as there are plenty of Kenner ones out there in good condition and as that style of bubble is so thin and tight fitting to the figure it stands to reason that it would hold up better than the other Jawa bubbles that have a bigger gap surrounding the figure.

Not sure ow to answer question 3 but I think question 1 is a similar question. One thing I did think of though with the A card backs on the last released was was that maybe a run was started for these 4 characters and then the word of the delay came back to Palitoy so they ceased printing. I'm sure if there were some in the factory that they would have been used first before switching to the B back.

Just my thoughts - Ian
