Guys, what do you think.

A seller charged me £24,95 for shipping a boxed X-Wing to the Netherlands (airsure). The postage stamp however says £11,65, so naturally I emailed the seller about this and asked for a refund. His answer?

Dear Sir
Glad that the item arrived in one piece. The last x-wing I shipped to Europe was badly damaged by the postal services with damaged toy box and missing cannons. Thus I take out additional insurance to cover, and the charge reflects this plus the cost of tracking and packaging materials. However out of good will I will give you a 25% discount on the shipping charge on any future purchases over the next month!
regards!

Bullshit! Or is it?

bullshit - you have to pay extra on airsure to cover items over about £40, but the postage stamp represents what is paid

Yep all costs are on the postage label (tracking, insurance etc) so all he can carge you extra for is the packaging - which I'm guessing didn't cost £13!

If it was through ebay or paypal you can open a dispute over that.

Yeah as above, adding extra insurance to the £37 thats included would probably add £5-£10 on the charge but its reflected in the final cost.

I always use parcel2go which have an instant quote section for any parcel to any destination

Thanks for all the reactions.

Just checked again and it's royal mail international signed for, not airsure. Does that make the situation any different?

Emiel, royal mail international signed for is £4.25 plus the air or surface mail postage price.

Hope this helps,

Mark.

Thanks Mark, but I mean does it make what he says about extra costs for additional insurance more believable?

I don't think so mate,i reckon the postage was £7-£8 & the rest was the international signed for charge of £4.25 which automatically covers you up to £41 in compensation.Extra insurance covering you for up to £250 is available for an extra charge of £2.50 per item!

So if your seller took this option of the extra insurance of £2.50 plus £11.65 that makes a total of £14.15 which still leaves a discrepancy of £10.80!

Hopefully Paul-itoy can chime in as he works for the royal mail! :D

If it's Royal Mail the postage stamp tells you how much was paid, so it doesn't matter what service was used -it's bullshit

But, companies like DHL do differ as their stamps only detail postage not insurance

he cant use a third party insurance to protect royal mail postage i dont think.

so he is ripping you off.

I know parcel2go offer their own additional insurance on top of DHL and fedex but you have to post it via them, if it went via international signed for he went to the post office to do it.

The fact is, that the price on the postage label is the price he paid.

I just sent a carded Mego figure to the US. The International Airmail Small packet rate cost £6.63. I then paid a further £6.75 for International Signed for with enhanced compensation cover for £100. The total came to £13.38 and that figure was on the postage label - insurance and all.

I was just saying to Weasel that about a month ago I sent 2 figures for grading to AFA from UK by Airsure small packet with weight of around 0.576kg costing £15.15 insured up to £300. Got there safe n sound.

Don't know if this helps :)

iam just pissed off by the fact that , i pay 20 euro from belgium to the states

for a moc , in a box that isnt oversized but still safe to send it in

20 euro

and if i send a skateboard to the states , its only 6 euro more

i could fit 10 of those bxed moc in the same box i send a skateboard in and i still would weigh a lot less

the whole shipping pricing makes no sence what so ever , where i live

I'm with Paulitoy, £24,95 is excessive, and the post paid for shows on the post label. If PP allows a dispute, you have a case.

Only finding this thread now, how did it end up Emiel? Did you get a refund from the cheeky ****er?
