Just a quick question about original plastic capes...Do they all have the cross-hatch pattern on one side and make the zip sound? Or do some of them not have a cross-hatch pattern? :?:

Its been quite a long time since i've collected the figures and i can't remember if all the capes zip or not....

The reason i ask is because i've just got a Darth Vader described as original and the cape is identical both sides with no cross-hatch and no zip

I checked the two other caped figures i have (Ben and Tusken Raider) and they both have cross-hatch when you look through a magnifing glass and therefore make the zip noise

All my vaders are smooth both sides........and yes they are original.

You may have given me some hope :) The guy i bought it off said it was definately original......its just the fact it doesn't have cross-hatch on one side that has made me question it.

Can anybody else confirm that Vaders cape has cross-hatch or not? Or is it just that some do and some don't :?:

I take it all back - just checked mine (rather than going on memory) and they are smooth both sides

looks like you have a goodun :D

:D You've just made my day :D

Thankyou both for replying

are you guys sure? mine has cross-hatch pattern and I thought 99% did as well. I know there are instances where they don't, but to have this many, I don't know.

I've got both types, the same with Ben. I'm 100% sure all are original just because I've owned them for so long and the vinyl is 'old'.

Probably the difference is to do with when they were made, SW or ROTJ issue

after asking around, I believe that you guys have repro capes.

double smooth vader cape= repro garbage

no offense, I just wouldn't believe otherwise until a moc collector chimes in with a carded double smooth cape vader

My Vader I think is smooth and smooth, I got it from my cousin who bought it in the 80's lol

I will check but I am sure smooth and smooth is ok..

If they are as common as mentioned, then there will be a moc on someone's shelf that could prove it. I think it would be interesting to hear about it. I wish I had a Vader on a jedi card.

Not a collector just trying to get rid of my stuff but I have an original Vader, brought from mums toy shop in 70's and it has cross hatching on outside.

Have you seen Bill McBride's post on RS?

They're discussing the 'leather' cape (looks like Joe made a boo boo  ) and Bill mentions the smooth cape - he is Mr Darth Vader after all.

My Darth is smooth on both sides and I know for a fact that it is not repro as I bought it when it cam out in the 70's - the only figure I kept for some reason.

After talking to Bill, it seems like the 1 side smooth/ 1 side textured was a US/kenner thing and the double smooth cape is abundant elsewhere.
