opinions on getting low quality moc's graded (big pics )

hmmm

this U grade thing.... anyone think AFA may have invented this so that everyone will want to grade otherwise crappy grade MOCs with would be low tier... can they charge more for U grading than just grading beater MOcs?

also this U thing will lower the overall MOC count and then they can charge more for higher tiers with the decent ones left?

I was pleased to see a U grade moulded legs Han Hoth, recently removed from a decent card but with a bit of writing on it, sell for less as a U grade than the guy bought it MOC :)

What a waste

did u print off the name tag in the bottom of the cases and put them inside?

yes - do it for all my figs that I case.

A few years back I got an ERG on a card that was a bit mangled. The bubble was a bit yellow but no dents, cracks and still stuck firmly to the card. Decided to send it to AFA, so I cut round the bubble and sent it off. It recieved a U85 grade.
I also have an AFA graded loose ERG graded 90.
Now I know the "U" makes a big difference to the sad morons who worship grading but how did a figure last touched by someone in the factory get a lower number grade than one that's been out of the bubble for god know how long??????

the problem with grading is that unless its all done by the same person then its all subjective to that person surely?

yes i know they will have guidelines handed down from on high but ultimately it comes down to that one person on that one day!

lol maybe because the factory workers there obviously had to wear face masks white gloves and handle every figure with tweezers in a controlled dust free environment.... NOT !!!

just how exactly do they get the figure out of the bubble and put it in its coffin anyways? like above?? lol again i dont think so

i really hate SELLOTAPED weapons in afa or UKG cases.... what the **** is that about? is this special archival non yellowing non shrinking and non drying out sellotape? probably not! and it also leaves glue on the weapons you can loose a grade on that! besides that they dont even give the weapon a sub grade do they?

wow what a rant!

Apparently they do use gloves when handling anything which will get a U grade or so I'm told.

As for sellotaped weapons, I'm told they could find no better way of doing it which would keep the cost down. However, if you request it they will create a little plastic enclosure for the weapon at extra cost. This looks good but you can see how fiddly it would be to do it all the time. I had it done on a Vlix so the little bit of cost wasn't such a big deal.

why dont they grade the weapon too??

I'd say the reason for that is they would have to guarantee 100% that the weapon was authentic to grade it, which i believe they do not (or a least didn't) do.

I wonder how many repro weapons have been sealed in those little afa cases.

From what I have heard more than once repro weapons have shown up in AFA graded figures.

If i was new to the hobby and worried about repro's i would go the afa loose route, thinking that all weapons would be vintage.

Fancy paying out loads of money for a graded figure.... with a repro weapon....gutted
