OK, I'm talking more about the POTF coins here.
What is the deal with them? Surprisingly I know **** all about them apart from a few basics;

1) There are more of them than there were POTF MOC's, so I assume they were some sort of special issue or give away thing!?

2) There are different Categories 1-5 (I think) relating to how hard they are to come by and thus how expensive they are. How many are in each category and what sort of price do they go for?

3) Maybe a really dim question, but are they the exact same as the POTF coins? If so why do those that didn't come on cards exist, what was the logic behind making them?

I guess I'm asking Skemple aka Bollux no2, or one of our other coin collectors to try and explain it to me.

In total there are sixty three POTF coins.
There are also other variations, which include:
prototypes. These have seen coins in gold, bronze and frosted tones.
Error coins. These include Han Solo trench coat coin with 'Hans Solo' rather than 'Han Solo', Sail Skiff coin (which probably is the rarest of the 62) which has Sail Barge rather than Sail Skiff.
There is also a 63rd coin, which shows two hands holding a lightsabre, this coin is extremely rare

The POTF coins are divided into 6 categories, these are the categories:
CATEGORY I (15 Coins)
* Coins in category I are the POTF figures, known as the last 17, that were found on cards. Kenner produced these new figures in greater quantities than figures that had previously been released on card, therefore these coins are the easiest to find.
CATEGORY II (20 Coins)
* Coins in category II are the coins for characters that were issued on POTF cards as well as being released on earlier cards. These coins are less common than in Category I. Two additions to this category are Yak face and Anakin coins; this is due to the rarity of the cards.
CATEGORY III (7 Coins)
* Coins in category III are common mail-away coins (these were never issued with carded figures). These coins were the ones most likely to be received with the POTF coin mail away offer.
CATEGORY IV (10 Coins)
* Coins in category IV are tougher mail-way coins to obtain. Not many of these were shipped to consumers; however there is a smaller quantity of these than Category III coins.
CATEGORY V (10 Coins)
* Coins in category V are extremely rare. Anyone trying to complete the set could spend half their time looking for these. These coins came from Kenner employees, so there are very few in existence.
CATEGORY VI
* Coins in category VI are Prototype coins and rare variations. There are very few of these known to exist and therefore they are extremely rare and hard to come by.

Hope this helps! :)

Cheers Carl! 8)
Makes a bit more sense now!

How many complete sets (all 63) are there out there?

difficult to say as sets are being completed and broken up all the time, besides i have been out of the game for 18 months, so i guess i am out of touch too

Yes it was a mail offer here in the States. I think Kenner's original plan was to offer all 62 on card eventually, but the Star Wars line was cancelled before that happened. Therefore almost half of the coins were only available in the mail. Also, very few actually received the CAT 4 and 5 coins in the promotion. Most of those have turned up from former Kenner employees. Here is a pic of the sticker that can be found on carded figures.

I think it is hard to gauge with sets being broken up and built all the time. There was some recent discussion about that a little while ago on rs if your interested.

$750 for the skiff coin and at the present exchange rate! Ouch!

Yeah I am dreading having to pick up the Skiff coin. That just might have to be my Star Wars purchase for the whole year when I decide to get that one.

i was lucky i picked mine up for either $200 :)

Hearing stories like that make me wish I would have started collecting these before they skyrocketed. :) I was working on my loose set of figures then, so they took a backseat even though I knew I wanted to collect them.

Yeah, i managed to get my last 2 as they were getting popular, do you have a diffinative list of tac coins and are some rarer than others?

I think for the most part there isn't any TAC coins rarer than others. Some characters seem to sell a little bit more. I remember Darth Revan and Darth Malak being two of those that sell a little higher. I lucked out with a lot of my coins. I found a local collecter that had no interest in them that gave me a bunch. I also picked up a lot with some duplicates that I used to trade on the modern classified on RS. Here is the checklist I have been using

nice one thanks!

Do you have any spares for sale?

I'll check when I get home. I think I traded/sold all my doubles, but if I have any they are yours for free. Just pay shipping.
