Sorry Todd and Iain

I love watching a good game of football ( soccer I certainly appreciate the skill involved and also believe that it is the only came that can truly be called football. Always wondered myself why Americans refer to NFL as football, I guess it's the same logic used when calling their baseball league the WORLD series. :?

Australia is broken in two when it comes to footy, Southern and western states traditionally play AFL whereas eastern and northern states play Rugby League/union. The round ball game ( A league ) is gaining in popularity as we have a somewhat more organised league now but it's battling indigenous games that are over 100 years old, the Melbourne AFL football club is one of the oldest football clubs in the world. Founded in 1859 only two years after the first FA club Sheffield was formed so Aussie rules has a lot of history and is deeply intrenched in our culture.

We kick the ball to score and it's kicked a **** load more than NFL so it can be called football, it is also a fast pace high scoring game so we don't have enough time for crowd fights. Prefer to leave that to the players.

Sorry I had to :p

Take Rugby and GAA, combine them, make the resulting game shitter and gayer and you have Aussie rules.

Haha - I've only been here a month - to me it's still football and always will be - although there is a good chance in a couple of years I might become a soccer mom
