Just a heads up to those looking for a media centre solution - you can buy one of these NOW TV boxes for £10 including delivery and HDMI cable from Sky:

http://www.nowtv.com/

Out of the box it offers iPlayer, 4od etc and allows you to pay for Sky content (which is what they obviously want you to do.)

HOWEVER what they don't tell you is that with a quick hack you can install Plex on it, which when paired with PlexApp on your computer, allows you to stream movies, videos, music etc over wifi in your network.

Seriously, for £10 this thing is amazing. If you haven't used it before Plex is a great app that gives your media files covers, descriptions, rating etc, it's just like using Netflix or something.

Here you go, this is how to install it on your Nov TV box:

And this is where you get it for your computer:

As I am very stupid, can you explain in layman s terms

I have a plasma tv that is not Wifi enabled so

Can I use an ipad wit the app? And stream ?

As I said I am stupid, I do have a laptop as well.

For example

Lets say my son comes around with his ipad   and logs on to sky go to watch footy, can he stream that to my TV ( or for that matter, if he forgets his ipad and says log in on your ipad dad  )

As I said I am thick so please be gentle with answers :D

You can do that without the box Michael. Connect the laptop via HDMI and use sky go. Or get an Apple TV £90ish to use the ipad

Cheers ...I told you I was stupid

Fed up of watching footy on my ipad  I mean my lads when he comes round

Unfortunately the only way to stream an ipad to a tv without wifi is with an Apple TV box as far as I know. They're similar to this, but 10 x the price :(

That's fine, you can still do it after you've set it up. Just skip to step 3 where you download the Plex app.

Just thought I'd give this a bump as it's basically free Sky Sports! I've been able to find a free or discounted voucher every time I've wanted to use it. Here's one right now:
