Not exactly hitting the loft find jackpot, but I was pleased....

At the weekend I popped around my folks to dig around the loft to see if they kept any of my old Star Wars toys... Lo and behold, I found my old, beaten up Falcon - and even a couple of equally knackered crew mates!!

The Falcon has seen better days, and is missing every part it possibly could (it was well played with back in the day). The plastic yellowing isn't too bad - and doesn't look out of place on the fastest heap of junk in the galaxy...

I'd like to restore my old Falcon to something approaching her former glory, but not sure of the best way to do it... Predictably, the individual Falcon parts on eBay are priced so that it works out way more expensive than buying a complete Falcon. Although the cheapest option, I'm loathed to do this, as stripping down another perfectly good ship or two for replacement parts seems a bit of a shame.

Interested to know what forum members would do / or have done? Cheers :)

Good find!

Personal childhood pieces are the best bits in a collection.

Like you said, the best option would be to try and land a complete Falcon to restore yours, certainly cheaper. I would advise you to attend local toy fairs, I've seen LOADS of stalls with parts for sale and loose complete ships - and you don't pay postage and you might be able to knock a few quid off the asking price.

What figures did you find?

Pics!

The struts and ball on a string our a bugger to get.

Ebay stanalone parts are expensive

Buy bulk part lots take what you need sell on this is what i have done. Its fun

set up a wtb thread too.

Does your engine motor work still?

If it still has the legs I would just keep it as is. Stand it up in your collection (if you have one). Stick a few figures in, and just know that it was your childhood toy :)

Your own childhood toys beat anything in my opinion

Have no idea if this photo will appear or not, but here goes...

I told you she was absolutely knackered, but I made a promise to the little guys in the cockpit that I'd fix their ride!

I'm new to collecting, so appreciate any and all your advice - If I restore it, I'm just going to be patient and just pick the parts off the needs list slowly... It had also crossed my mind to just leave this one as it is (and buy another!)

Before Christmas I did manage to find my Luke disguise figure in the loft. He was in pretty good condition too, but sadly minus the helmet and gun. I did manage to pick up a helmet from eBay, but that was before I arrived here and hadn't done a modicum of research, so in all likelihood it is a replica knowing my luck. I won't be too disappointed if it is, as it didn't cost a great deal. Again, more knowledgeable opinions appreciated...

Funny because my memory is terrible, but I remember buying this figure as a kid... I'd gone off buying Star Wars figures by the time POTF came around as I didn't recognise half of the characters, didn't like the cards or coins, and didn't like the way they made everybody look a bit too muscle-bound. But I picked this up as I thought it looked cool, and my regular stormtrooper was pretty beaten up at this point. Happy days!

That Falcon looks pretty good! Did you ever apply the stickers?

I'm sure one or two of the chaps will have parts for sale at some point.

That Luke is a very nice find - and in decent nick!

You're off to a good start mate :)

The stickers that were still intact had all lifted off unfortunately. I've still got them at least.

I've only been collecting for two months, and have thrown myself into it... Started with 20 or so loose figures (from my childhood collection) and now have nearly all of the basic figures (barring last 17) in mostly good condition all with accessories. So far I've had good experiences (especially on here, and on eBay), a few bad ones (eBay!). Budget won't allow for anything too minty or rare, but am intending to put together a nice collection this year (mostly stuff I always wanted as a kid) and then put op together a display - will post it on here when looks half decent!!

Haven't tested it yet, but I would be seriously suprised if it worked... As a kid I sent her off on too many Kessel runs, and the engine was erratic even back then (which is how the falcon should be!!)

Nothing beats finding your childhood toys, your Falcon looks to be in great condition and a verry decent start for a restoration project. Retroblasting did a video on Falcon restoration that may be of help to you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppz8dAysqEk be sure to check out the rest of their channel for more retro toys and cartoon entertainment. Good luck with your project :)

That's great finding your old figures. I also was in 2 minds when i found my Falcon. In the end I decided to leave her as she was. I didn't want to add pieces on that were never mine from the beginning. I then bought a new Falcon which is as close to mint as I could get. I can't even tell if the box was ever opened.

That's a great find mate! I've got the bracket that the radar dish clips onto. You'd still need the base that clips to the ship and the dish itself, but every little helps! You can have it FOC- just send me a PM if you want it.

Thanks again for great advice everybody, not to mention offers...I will PM shortly...

I am lucky to still have a few old figures of mine. Although they do remind me of what a f***ing awful child I was  relentlessly nagging my mother on shopping trips to buy me a new figures, then ripping them open as soon as I was out of the shop door...Sad to say I can recall losing guns and accessories before they'd even made it home...

The radar clip arrived today - along with a topps card to boot... cheers Cazza. What a nice chap, wouldn't even except postage costs... I did try!

Should I have any spares bits and bobs in the future will similarly share with other forum members. :D
