NOOOOOO! Star wars film set to be lost!

Yea i read this this mornign as well. Such a shame. They say the dune will pass over it eventually but doubt whether the building will survice without any damage.

Great dig indeed

To a certain extent this could be a fun thing down the road. Imagine a team of archaeologists rocking up looking for long buried movie sites in a few hundred years or more. Some future Indiana Jones unearthing SW history. Life imitating art imitating art becoming real life :)

I don't think its that great a loss. I think it speaks a lot of western society that movie crews go and construct and film these things, then leave them to rot in the desert. OK they may be iconic and people may go and venture to see these things, but its probably only due to time and money constraints that it'd be cheaper just to abandon and leave than to take apart and dispose of properly. If it was filmed in a forested area and stuff, they would have to take it apart and dispose of properly as they would get their asses sued by wildlife preservation groups.

Haha I sound like a raging hippy all "save the planet" but I think it says a lot is all.

A few movie sets (and TV sets) are now being left as tourist artractions not just because it is cheeper to leave them, which is so true. I think there are parts of the set of Hunger Games that can be toured, I know there is a growning Game of Thones tour, in NZ there is Hobbit/LoTR's tours etc. i think certain countries or authorities want to cash in on the movie after the fact, which is fine.
