Nice profit if you can get it!

I would guesstimate the tatty boxed DVTF would be around £80 so that Menzies sticker with writing on it cost £170

Get the right sticker/s on MOC and it will cost you a lot more than a £170 premium. Look at the Toltoys cars that was put up for valuation recently as an example, the premium on that against the Kenner equivalent was thousands.

I know it's crazy days. Thankfully I don't have any interest in sticker variations but I'll have a look at these valuations you mention and calculate how much money I've saved :)

I was actually very interested in this item and almost made an offer close to that price here on SWFUK. Probably should have as he wouldn't have had to pay fees here.

I have to admit, I was in two minds when I found this thread and I am a little surprised that it wasn't offered here or on RS first. Not that I mind people making a profit at all. I have sometimes set a high price o something I'm selling on ebay to cover the bloody fees, etc and also because I know what I have is uncommon and I don't really know what its worth. And let's face it, no=one is offering me what I'm after cheaply.

So, I have to admit, I'm sort of on Mike's side in this one. He got a bargain and he is using it to buy something else that he's after. I don't think what he got after fees is too rude either.

I should have made an offer...... bugger.......

Cheers
Pat

I've only just come across this thread.

The truth be told, I've been offered a Canadian Sears boxed AT-AT, one of only 4 box variations I need for my AT-AT Focus. The price will be around $3,500 and I simply can't justify paying more for a Star Wars item than I paid for my car.

I saw the DVTF and as I already had a Rebel Transport I bought it. I got the Rebel Transport from Leicester about a years ago for £65 or there abouts. There wasn't really anything in the pipeline for me to buy at that time so I kept hold of it.

Now I've been offered a Sears AT-AT I decided to let the Transport go and see if I could make a quick £100 on the DVTF. So now I'm about half way to getting the Sears AT-AT and I've got no regrets and I've done it for less than £200.

I am a serious collector as you can tell by my collection of AT-ATs, 12" Princess Leias and MOC Yak Faces. I just can't really afford to spend that kind of money on single items any more. The way I justify the amounts of money I spend is by moving my collections around, I'd have no problem selling off my MOC Yaks to purchase the Meccano boxed AT-ATs I need for my focus.

Essentially I am really bad with money so I find it much easier to spend on items than keep it in the bank. It also means I can sell on items as and when I need funds for another purchase.

Nice :) Does it come with the General Veers MOC? I have no idea on pricing of either item but for that kind of price I'd expect the vaccum sealed MOC in there. If it does I can't wait to see it.

Snap. I'm terrible with money. If I spend it on collectibles I like then it can't be spent on silly things. When I need money, I sell something. Not a good cashflow system but it does mean should the **** ever hit the fan then I know we have something to fall back on.

Did you sell your Rebel Transport out of interest? Did it have the Menzies offer on it again? How long did that offer run for, then? From SW boxed DVTF all the way through to ROTJ

Yep it went to the same buyer and also had the John Menzies Poster Offer. I thought the offer was only on the ROTJ era (I have an ROTJ AT-AT with the same offer and a ESB John Menzies "Free Stormtrooper" Offer too) so seems very odd to be on a SW box.

It comes with a Canadian MOC AT-AT Driver, there was one that sold on eBay.com last month for $4,500, it was graded Q80 I think and came with a Baggie AT-AT Driver. The Sears offers always came with carded figures, never Baggie ones so it shouldn't of really been graded!

I notice this flipping didn't get it's own thread, maybe because I was the ORIGINAL seller this time?

Or maybe, just maybe it's because the difference there is only 20 odd quid? The fact that you've brought this thread up again over what appears to be a pretty insignificant amount speaks volumes but perhaps now it gives you a better understanding as to why some of us get pissed off when people like you flip things for hundreds or thousands more than you paid for them   sucks doesn't it?

Doesn't really bother me, I just thought the Inspector Clouseau's would of posted it already. Makes me wonder if the flipper is in the clique?

If it doesn't really bother you, why bother posting about it in the first place????

Quite. And as for any "clique" here? That's what make this forum so great, there aren't any. By being part of this forum you are part of the forum and any "clique" that exists. That's why I love this place: there is no "inner circle" or other such bollocks. One and all are welcome and there's not even a funny handshake.

I buy to collect. I don't see the point in purely buying to sell.

That's not to say I haven't done it, because I have. But I've bought job lots of stuff, because I wanted one piece from the lot and sold on the rest to people that would be more interested in them, at more or less face value. So I've not even sold on to make a profit. I guess some people use it as a business though, and as with anything collectible or antiques etc, you buy low and try to sell at a profit. It's like those TV shows Flog It and whatnot.

But as a true collector, I buy to collect, and only sell one of my pieces generally if an emergency comes up and I need instant cash (as with the Tusken Revenge proof I'm trying to sell - I wouldn't dream of selling that otherwise) or a better piece crops up of something that's outside my focus and I buy that and sell the duplicate.

But buying something and instantly selling it on? Nah.

For those of you guys who have not read it yet, this article by my good friend Ross B. on Christian's blog pretty much sums up how I feel about flipping.

I get my buzz from buying something I want for my collection, and I cannot be bothered buying to flip.
