Sorry if this seems a little soppy but I wanted to share.....

As some of you will remember, we lost our little pal George the Cavalier a few months ago, which was devastating, we said we wouldn't have another dog.
We had a great 10 years from him.
Thanks guys again for all of the support and advice given.

We had re homed 2 golden retrievers over the last 25 years though, and we were thinking about it again.

We enquired and there was a 6 year old needing a home so we popped over today, yes you've guessed it...a new member of the family.
There is still a twinge of guilt, as it felt like we were being disloyal to our pal George, but the fact that this little Goldie needed a home sat well with me and the Mrs.

She is a lovely dog, very calm, and fit straight in at home.

Feels really good to be re homing a dog as well, we made a donation, £120 is the minimum, but these ar all Registered and chipped full bred golden retrievers, that for one reason or another need a home.

The lady we went to who runs the NW retriever rescue, has rehomed 5000 retrievers over the years she has been doing it, what a fantastic thing to do.

So I thought, albeit a bit soppy, I would share the good news, and if anyone is thinking about re homing and giving a loving home to a dog that needs one, my advice is go for it, if you can give the time and a loving home it's a very special feeling, and these dogs, I swear know whats happening, and are brilliant.

Here is Sophie, she has claimed the buffet in the lounge already.......

And Im back down the pecking order again

Well done mate- she looks lovely and very at home already! Trying to persuade the Mrs to get one, but she's not having any of it :(

Great news Mike, if it felt right, it must be the right time, its not the length of time between losing a pet & getting a new one, as you see, its all about when it feels like the right time, lovely looking dog, love GR's myself as my eldest brother had a couple when I was but a mini grunt, great temperaments & a very loving & loyal breed, you now just have your work cut out with the daily grooming as they can molt with the best of them, but you already know that.

Really pleased for you & the family, but most of all for Sophie, as every animal needs love & the right home & I am sure she will find it with your family buddy.

That's awesome Michael. Don't feel guilty. You did a great thing re housing Soph. G

Cazzavr...keep working on it, you get so much joy from a loyal friend :D

Frank....yep they moult a lot, but not bad if you keep em groomed regularly

Grant...cheers bud, always a twinge of guilt, but giving a new home makes it worth while

Cheers guys :D

I'm sorry for your loss Michael, I wasn't aware.
She looks really settled there in your lovely living room.
You've done the right thing by going this my friend.
The old Cavalier would be happy for you.

My Auntie and Uncle have always had Golden Retrievers. They lost both of their dogs back in 2013 due to old age.

They said they wouldn't have any more dogs, however...............

They had never had rescue dogs before, but gave homes to two gorgeous Golden Retrievers earlier this year and they both settled in absolutely fine too.

Lovely pictures Mike - she looks very regal. I do think it's different with a rescue dog as you know deep down you are giving the dog a second chance and that must give such a great sense of satisfaction knowing you have provided a loving and caring home.

Ah thats great mate, and that she seems settled allready, they are lovely looking dogs.
We have a shihtzu, i love her to bits, never had a 'proper' breed before allways mongrels, anyway glad your happy with her

Grinchy.....whats a Shihtzu?

Is that not a zoo with no monkeys  sorry couldn't resist
I think we should have a SWFUK pets corner

Frank...your not far off the mark,

Here she is, decided she's sleeping at the foot of our bed

I knew you wouldn't be able to resist, you seem the type to give in to puppy dog eyes ;)

She looks like a great companion Michael and judging from the pictures she's already settled in! I'm sure George is happy there is another dog safe and in the warm in his old house, taking care of his family while he's having fun upstairs with his old pals.

Fantastic news Mike :D really made up for you and Caroline, a great decision and addition. Sophie looks like she has settled in already and she'll no doubt get the TLC she deserves :)
