Here's what was paid at Astons followed by these new listings on ebay, little bit cheeky me thinks -

Sold for £80

Lot 356 - Palitoy Star Wars 12 back carded Jawa figure - re-sealed.
Sold for £75

I think that's quite insulting to collectors. That's not just a little mark up, that is taking the piss!
I might make him an offer £10 less than what he paid at Astons

The thing that annoys me is that it's clearly been bought to flip and make money out of collectors when it should really have just gone to a collector in the first place. Saying that though I guess if you're not going to bid on it in the first place then you're not going to get it. There were fees added to these final sales prices as well but it's still trying to take advantage.

I couldn't agree with you more... I really do wish these people would just butt out of our hobby instead of seeing us all as cash cows. My monthly limit towards this hobby is about £100, but the way these people make items so unattainable to buy makes me sick - This is why I only deal with people here now!

Oh that is a bit shameful after some of the threads that have been on here recently about doing this very same thing.

I have a Palitoy 12 Back Jawa reseal that I will be happy to let go for £125 plus postage.

Perhaps we should start naming and shaming.

What with the fight against repros and U grading this community is seriously growing some balls!

I have PMed the member asking him to post his side of the story.

This just comes down to greed. Instead of helping out a fellow collector fill a gap in their collection, they've obviously gone for the cash in with the irons hot right now... Don't get me wrong, if you think to yourself 'Hey, I could properly make £20/£30 on top of that,' I'd think, okay, you're helping someone out, plus making a little bit extra to help fund your collection (after all we've all done it). But this seems to be a little bit more than that when you blow out helping fellow forum members & friends that have properly helped you out somewhere down the line with a nice deal...

After a bit of deliberation I have decided to answer some of my critics on the site and explain who I am and what I do.

I have recently retired after a period of illness and am currently running a vintage toy business from home.

I source my stock from the local classified ads, word of mouth, toy fares and yes the auctions.

Mostly my stock has a small mark up however in exceptional circumstances I will make a large mark up if I feel an item is undervalued. The palitoy items are a case in point, I am a collector of Glasslite and Lili Ledy figures and have noted their huge prices compared to the Kenner equivalents. I recently almost got stung on a reseal lili ledy figure for £440. Glasslite is even worse.
The palitoy figures are just as sought after, if not more than their Mexican/Brazilian equivalents.

My view is that their prices should reflect this. Within the community in the UK they may be available but Worldwide???

As has been noticed I sold the R2D2, this was undoubtedly to an R2D2 focus collector who knows full well that this is the one and only chance that he will get to get a Palitoy R2 even if the bubble has been cut. Remember this is now a GLOBAL phenomenon.

The Jawa I would pay the price if I was a Jawa focus collector hence the price.

On a sidenote if there are any items from my stock you want, PM me with a decent offer and I'll pull the item and it's yours.

I've got a lot of stuff and it's all for sale!

I'm finding it hard to understand what you're explaining, but at least I've learned that Star Wars is a GLOBAL phenomenon.

That'll be news to everyone

Hi Jon,

Thanks for responding to this thread, that's good of you as I know most people probably wouldn't have bothered.

The end of the day they're your toys and you can charge what you like for them but as a forum member here it seems like a very excessive mark up, especially the Jawa, and I'm sure if you've read some of the threads on here this sort of thing will always be frowned upon.
It does feel like you're taking advantage of the Star Wars collectors out there by buying this up and flipping it straight away at over triple the cost. Everyone wants to get the best price they can for their items but as a Star Wars collector yourself this can only help to keep pushing the prices up and may even backfire on yourself one day when you get priced out of something. Again, it's totally up to you but these are mine and others thoughts on this type of practice.

As a side note a sealed one of these sold in April last year for 400 GBP. It did have a little crushing to the bubble but feel you may need to lower your price a fair amount to get a sale. These tend to go for around 100 GBP although one did go for just over 200 last year which was totally complete and the nicest reseal I've ever seen (except for one of mine :) ). Maybe the prices have once again gone crazy but I'm wondering if the autograph which came with the R2 helped the sale? I guess we'll all find out at some point when more of these Jawa's and 12 backs surface.

One last thing is that I'm not trying to have a go at you as you did win the item fair and square and it's up to you what you want to do with it, it's just that I wonder if the person who you outbid would have kept hold of it for longer? Who's to know, it may well have just ended up on ebay anyway.

Best of luck with your other sales though as you've got some nice items there, I've wanted one of those 12" Cylons for a while now so it's nice to see one in great shape.

Ian

Ian,

Thank you for the supportive post.

I am aware that focus collectors look for Boba fett, R2D2 and Jawas amongst other figures.

This of course pushes the prices up, now my prices are testers, if it can't sell of course I will lower the price if somebody makes an offer within my range that is also good.

I have witnessed auctions where every palitoy carded factory sealed figure has gone for between 2 and 13k for the boba fett, I imagine a sealed jawa would go for 6-8k although I have never seen one.

The good news is that if you don't like my items or prices you can slag me off and try to get the same item for yourself cheaper.

Good luck because I have been collecting Star Wars figures since 1977!

Guys some of you will think I'm great and some of you will hate me,

I love you all,

Jon

Um…….

If you think that a sealed Jawa will cost between 6-8k then I can see why you've put your reseal up at such a high price and also tell that even though you've been collecting Star Wars since 77 you seem to have given up on watching the market value for some of these items a long time ago. Here's an eye opener for you.

12B sealed Jawa with slightly crushed bubble sold for 400 GBP on April 5 2014

12B sealed AFA 80 Jawa sold for 1000 GBP on April 1 2015 (BIN)

12 sealed UKG 85 Jawa sold for 1000 GBP on January 2 2014 (BIN)

These are all from ebay sales and I know there have been others at auction during this time that have gone for less than the 1000 GBP mark.

There are very few Palitoy sealed figures that have even gotten close to your 6-8k estimate which shows me you have a lack of knowledge in this area and are getting caught up in the recent FX-7 and Boba Fett sales.

Best of luck with all your future sales and the first reseal I purchased of a resealed 12 back Jawa cost me 75 GBP and came with a Palitoy Stormtrooper and DSC and the second one was 100 GBP and the third around 70 GBP so I guess I must have been really lucky. :D

Love and Hugs - Ian :D
