Hi all,

I came across this forum a few days ago and was very impressed. I’ve collected vintage and new starwars toys on and off for the past 5 years and was delighted when I cam across this forum. I have a lot of questions I need to ask you guys, but I wont bombarded you with them all at once. I don’t have a huge collection, but its slowly increasing and I have a few nice pieces (Imperial Transport boxed with cellophane still on, Max Rebo Band boxed.

Question:

I have a lot of vintage loose starwars which I would like carded. Now I’ve seen on net that you can buy vintage card backs replicas plus the plastic bubbles. What are your thoughts on this? There is an American guy on YouTube who shows you how to do this step by step, but how do you know which bubble goes with which figure? Also I could do with knowing which car back for the rear do I need.

Your help and advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the boards jedi83 :D

You should post some pics of your collection

As to your recarding question it's entirely a matter of taste. Personally I collect loose figures or original carded ones, re-cards don't do it for me.

If you want to know which cardback goes with which figure, there are a few matrices out there

This is Mr Palitoy's Palitoy guide but there's also one for all the Kenner backs

But if they're recards I wouldn't worry too much, and if you want the correct bubbles you'll just have to buy vintage ones

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Spoons. Thanks for the link to the “Mr Palitory’” web site, that’s a really useful site.

I just purchased the following from Ebay yesterday so I will let you know if it’s any good. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-STAR-WARS-FIGURE-COLLECTORS-GUIDE_W0QQitemZ180226371750QQihZ008QQcategoryZ56307QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Jezz124 “welcome m8 i only collect loose at the mo but i cant see much point in re-sealing them?”

That’s a good question Jezz124. I am not really sure. If it’s going to be really expensive I am not going to bother. Also if I do re card a figure and I am not happy with the finished result I will probably give it a miss.

This is the web site I came across on the net: http://starwarscustomcarded.com and where I thought I may purchase a few cards and bubbles unless any of you know of a better site. This youtube link also shows you how to actually reseal the figure in the card. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M96jNArTEak

Thanks

Welcome to the forum - beware of the abuse!!!

In regards to resealing / custom figures then there is not a problem as long as you don't try to pass them off as the real thing - if its just to enhance your display then there is no probelm with it - not my thing but each to their own.

My focus is now trying to get a full run of all figures on the correct cardback they were first released on (ie SW/ESB/ROTJ or POTF) as I have a full set of all figures and lots of variations (although not as much as some folk on here!!)

Also trying to complete the Animated Droids line (need R2, C-3P0 Sise Fromm, Vlix!!!!). completed the Ewok animated line.

Try craigs bubbles for recarding http://www.toyrestore.com . they are almost spot on. The cardback images can easily be purchased on cd or If you have any needs I would be willing to send you any scans you need for free. Welcome :D

I really appreciate that tiefighterboy. Wow its very rare to come across a forum were people are so friendly.

Also what I would like to do is start to get my loose figures fully complete e.g. purchase the missing capes and weapons etc, but I don’t have a list of what weapon goes with what figure. I've ordered a figure/weapon guide off eBay, but until that comes does anybody know what weapon goes with a Leia endor and a Han endor, both figures have their capes and belt (Leia), but Iam unsure what weapon is needed for them. Can any body help?

Oh and does anybody know where I can get one of the goblin looking heads that are on the front of Jabbas thrown as I am missing one.

cheers

yes and if you want to be fussy get a grey or blue one for leia as the black ones never came with that figure...

welcome .dont waste anymore money on them guides just ask anyone on here they will give you a honest answer .

Hi Jedi83, have fun and as a reasonably new collector myself, I'd advise the following...

-Dont buy repro, you'll just end up replacing it in the future as your collecting standards will rise..
-There's no rush, ebay and dealers on here etc will be around for years, I used to suffer from terribly itchy buying fingers and waste money in the long run, in my opinion its about quality not quantity.
-Loose good quality figures are the future, cards and plastic bubbles will inevitbly deteriate and values drop (in my opinion though i'm sure many will disagree)
-Setyourself a monthly budget.
-Dont post on this site after driking lots of gin and tonic

This is probably the easiest guide for seeing which weapon go with the figures:

My advice for collecting loose figures is don't buy incomplete figures as sometimes buying the weapons and accessories on their own can be costly.

Oh and welcome to the forum !!

Hi 01AB cheers for the info,

Yeah I know what you mean about itcy fingers. eBay does me no favours. The monthly budget is definetly a good idea. Ive just bought my first house so my spending is at a strict mimimum until I get to grips with my outgoings, but on on the brightside it has a loft room which is where my colection will be displayed.

once again thanks for the info.
