New retroline.......

I thought that too. The colour scheme looks similar to other vintage figure greys (dsc, tie pilot) so perhaps that's what they were thinking?

I agree the facial sculpt looks overly detailed /cartoonish, but I will reserve judgment until i have it in hand. I find a lot of the vintage figures look a bit odd if you look at them too closely... X wing Luke reminds me of windy Miller!

X-Wing Luke has one of the worst head sculpts from the entire vintage range. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting but that figures head never quite looked right to me, even growing up with it but the body's really nice and card art so I can see why it's a popular one to collect as a focus.

Ian

Yep, great figure with a terrible head.

When I was a kid I always thought that the black visor bit was supposed to be Luke's hair, but really badly done.

I still thought that until about two years ago when I read on a forum what it actually is.

I was thinking the same in the 80s when I was a kid, later I learned it was visor

Yes I was one of many kids who thought I had a Wedge action figure, not realising the black 'hair' was a visor

Found some newer pics of the new retroline figs - pics seem clearer than previous ones so thought some of you might like a closer look...

Chewie also looks too wide or too short... I can't tell which!

Thanks for posting these though as they are indeed much better photos.

Glad to see Chewie's and Leia's weapons are solid black. It looks like Han's and Stormie's blasters are also black but different moulds from the vintage counterparts which came in solid black. So it looks like they can be differentiated by eye under scrutiny. Hopefully they sink so there's no passing them off as vintage solid black accessories. The lightsabres don't look so easy to distinguish from vintage from these photos. Again, hopefully there will be some easily distinguishable tells.

Chris

I know these are brand new sculpts from Hasbro, and hence they won't look exactly like the vintage originals, but Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the new Luke's face looks a bit like Victoria Wood?!

I believe all of the new weapons are much sharper / more detailed sculpts than their vintage counterparts (Leia's blaster is very different upon close inspection, for example), and if Hasbro are correct in their claim that this line is a slightly larger scale than the originals, hopefully that too will extend to the weapons and cloaks.

Jeremy

Good luck telling them from vintage originals in bulk lots on eBay (once people open them and play with them - that still happens right?!?). I can forsee a lot of after sale "back and forth" issues to sort out misunderstandings and just plain old misleading listings. Really wish this retro line had just gone straight to figures they never made first time around.

Alternatively, sellers will have to take good quality photographs and list things properly if they want decent offers. Not necessarily a bad thing IMHO.

Just assume any random minty white Luke farmboys or Leias you see in poorly photographed job lots from now on might be worth a fiver at best - you could get lucky

Interview with Hasbro from Celebration. They talk mostly about other modern stuff but there is a bit of retro line info in there.

It's a sticker in the card, so that's good. I think we will be seeing more figures at some point.

Looks like Tarkin has hit Target stores a tad earlier than expected. Got to say I like this figure - the face sculpt looks a bit better / softer than some of the earlier promo pics.

I don't think these appearing in lots will be an issue really, I don't think these kind of toys get taken out of the packaging nowadays do they, they seem to be aimed at adult collectors who display them rather than children.

Mine will be! I have pre-ordered the first wave of the retro line. They will be stuck up in the loft until mid-December, when they will be wrapped up and placed under the crimbo tree. Come the morning of the 25th, I'm gonna rip em open like it's 1983/4 !!!

The last time I opened a Star Wars moc was 35 years ago. This will be the closest I will ever get to doing it again. These days my christmasses are about buying stuff for other people, which obviously sucks. Meanwhile I mostly get boring old socks, handkerchiefs and aftershave

Oh, and I've also preordered a mini megadrive. Christmas 1990!

Looking at that picture, and remembering that these are mainly aimed at "adult" collectors, the paint app is very poor?

Yep I noticed that around the belt... although to be fair most of my vintage Mocs have far from perfect paint apps under close inspection, so perhaps par for the course really.

Death Star Game with Tarkin for sale in the U.K. now:
