My display case restoration for my loose figures finished :)

Good work indeed and the age old question of how to put the loose run in the cabinet raises its head again. I really don't think that there is a right answer... its all down to taste and of course how you choose to have it displayed in January maybe different to February and different again a month later. All part of the joy of it!
Mine, for what its worth, is set-up with a Rebellion three tier shelf with characters in their various guises in groups a Empire three tier shelf again grouped by character then finally a supporting cast three tier shelf grouped by character.
I can't wait to see this finished and full!
Iain Sanderson (itfciain) is the man for the stands you'll need :D

Thanks for that :) I need to fit 22-25 figures on each shelf to get them all in, but the downside is that I'll need over 300 stands  .
I also wanted to ask how people display the figures with weapons? Do you use anything to hold them in place so they don't fall out of the hands? I don't want to use anything that might react with the plastic over time so any suggestions would be great. Thanks again, Jonathan :)

Just seen this thread and what an awesome project.Firstly I love the idea of reusing something and putting it to use rather than seeing it being chucked away.Society today has become to much of a throw away society.

The cabinet coming from a church and having probably some age to it means it will be solidly made, robust, and used decent materials. Not like the cheap mdf, chipboard,or veneered crap you get nowadays. And no doubt will last a long time.Excellent find.

I've been looking for a display case recently and while I have considered the popular ikea offerings I would much prefer this.A wooden display case looks/fits better in a home setting and is more inkeeping with other wooden furniture which compliment it.

Can't wait to see it full of figures should look amazing.

Thanks for that :) it's coming along nicely now, I just need the figure stands and I'll be set. If your looking for a different sort of display unit, look on gumtree and eBay as there are lots to choose from and will be different from the usual display cases on offer.
I do like the ikea cases and some of the collections on here are awesome, I guess I just prefer Old stuff :)

Hi. Well it's taken me a while, but it's finally finished :) I ended up getting acrylic shelves made as the glass ones were going to cost £160  the Perspex ones are ok, but they can be very flexible and bend even with the weight of 20 odd loose figures.
I managed to pull them taught and then tighten them to the brackets, which has kept the shelves straight :)
The fairy lights were not bright enough and nearly all the light was blocked out once I started putting figures in. So I went with the led strip lights, that were advised in this thread and they are super bright :)
Here is the cabinet with shelves and lights fitted

The lights were dead easy to install and run off the mains so no worries about batteries. I. The end the shelves needed to be trimmed down to fit, so it was a good job I didn't get the glass shelves :?
Lights out and display lights on :)

After over three hours of sorting through the figures and making sure each had the right weapon, it has finally come together :)

I actually like it with the lights off for some reason :)

That is the view from the end of my bed, so really like lounging in the evening and looking over my whole loose figure collection. I couldn't get all of my figures in, but the ones in the case are all minty with original weapons. I think I'll get detolf case for the rest of the figures and mix them up with some boxed items, so I'll let you know how I get on :)
Didn't have to use figure stands although they would have made life easier. Thanks for looking and for checking in. All the best, Jonathan :)

That's an outstanding display and collection! Great job on the case too!

Wow great job, thanks for sharing it looks fantastic, would defiantly consider getting some figure stands though, one good knock and you'd be there for weeks :D

 I think I'll apply to the council to get a 20 mile an hour sign outside the house in case any Lorrys go past :)

Love this thread... From the first post wasn't convinced that cabinet was going to look as awesome as it eventually does by the end! What a great home for a great collection :D

Fantastic effort and cracking display 8) you clearly have the DIY skills!

As for the previous storage vessels they were pretty damn cool too 8) these figures are being royally spoilt

That looks fantastic mate, the lighting is the icing on the cake. Love the fact that it's vintage and the cabinet is restored vintage as well, all comes together
Congrats, looks great :D

Don't know how I've missed this thread, what a great display you've created.

amazing job, don't know if this helps but if the plexy bends, I had some green house glass sheets and got the local glass cutter to cut the shelves to size from templates, similar to your sizes, he just said put some money in his charity tin so did not cost me much at all, it can be sharp on the edges just run over with some emery paper, worked for me :)
