Hi all,

I was lucky enough to go to the Tippett Studios in Berkeley this year and thought you might like to see some photos I took.
It was truly a fantastic experience to meet him and ticks off a big wish of mine since I was a boy watching the Chess game from Star Wars and of coarse those AT-AT's from Empire on the big screen ,(not to mention all the other animated shots he worked on).

Hope you enjoy!

Ian

Great stuff- i would love to be talented enough to work this guy.

He's mainly supervising CG now at his studio although he does have his pet project Mad God that he sometimes animates on. He's very funny and loves the old ways best, really great to meet him.

Superb! Massive respect to Phil Tippet and his brilliant work. Love the little shot during the battle of Hoth when the scout walker strides through. Class.

I've always loved his work and even though he doesn't get to animate much now he still oversees all the CG shots that are produced at his studio and I think that's the reason the work done there is some of the best, most characterful animation up there on the big screen.

He's a passionate guy and you've got to love him for that.

What a fantastic thread! Brilliant pictures Ian, and how wonderful to meet the man himself (plus who doesn't love an ED-209? :D).

Many, many thanks for sharing these.

Thanks guys for all the positive comments on this old thread.

I remembered this old thread whilst watching the ILM 40 years of Empire on youtube I put a thread up on. It was so amazing to get the chance to meet someone who I owe a lot for pushing me into my career without them even knowing, although I always find it hard to think of questions to ask when I've been in this kind of situation over the years. It's just nice to meet them really and get to know them a bit but Phil Tippett was so generous with his time and it's just a shame that I wasn't staying in Berkley where I was living at the time for longer as I could have gotten to work for him on his short.

I'm not sure how much Stop Motion is getting made at his studio now a days but it was good to see him directing some animators for the chess sequence for the latest films.

Thanks again and hopefully I'll get to meet some more from the old SW crew before I'm finished in the industry.
