Maybe a stupid question, but did Meccano actually manufacture figures/vehicles or just repack them a la Palitoy?

Hi there.

Meccano made several figures and vehicles

Including 12backs, ESB and ROTJ and Vehicles

The book "Meccano to Trilogo" will be of use to you

I think Stephane might still have a spare copy or two

Here is his website - http://www.meccano2trilogo.com/

Thanks for that, picked up an ROTJ Battled damaged TIE that has "moulded in France, assembled in England" on. Thought it was going to be a Palitoy lol.

I didnt mean loose figures. :)

I was referring to Carded Figures

If the OP is meaning loose figures then Scott is right :)

Sorry for the confusion

Good question. A little off topic so if someone could send me somewhere or start a new thread but what is raised bar, solid bar, double line bar no scar and all that stuff?

Their all coo variants theres tons of stuff over the net about it, the best place ive seen so far is the TIG site.

So is a bar a line of text?
if you have a mold for a hong kong figure and that mold gets sent to meccano, ledy ect some times they changed it. from what I hear the hong kong got filled in with a blank bar for meccano, then theres the ones that went to china. these were filled in with a bar and china imprinted onto the bar, same for japan
I think this is correct but if anyone knows differently Im sure they'll have a say
David

Hi Liam, the loose figures got carded on there cards but they where made in HK, Macau and spain.

Meccano didn't make any small size figures, just packaged them that I know of.
I was under the same impression.
Just to get my 2 cents in haha
Ive heard from a few people on here that the solid bar is meccano

There's 2 slightly different raised bar's for most the raised bar figures, in some figures one is supposedly a meccano exclusive and the other is supposedly a more common Euro variant. Both IMO where made in Macau using a pair of molds and both where probibly found on Palitoy ROTJ/Tri's as well as Meccano's.

A raised bar is what can be seen on the China Luke ect, theres also ones that are blank. If you imagain the HK engraved on the leg inside a mold, you would have to add a raised bar by ingraving it in the mold deeper than the HK thats present.

Maccano where carding figures for ROTJ from Macau, Spain, HK(like Palitoy) and MIHK factories

The Rebel soldiers COO's are good to explain some of the termanology used by collecters, also James double vs single raised bar picture, which I'd imagine was used to blank out the China.

RS
5 No COO raised ridge
6 No COO smooth
7 China Raised bar
8 Blank raised bar

Theres also different types of scars though, like the AT-AT Commander 7, CCP 4, Fett 4 & 5, Imperial Commander 4 & 7, Tie pilot 5 and Walrusman 3

Thanks for that (can't see some images as I'm not a member)

So a scar is a blanked out COO from the mould?
A bar is a piece of shim with new COO inserted in the mould to overwrite a previous COO?

So anyway, as the threads been hijacked ill go with the flow, if these no coo figures were made in the far east why have they had there coo's removed? Surely if it was for example made in Hong Kong and sent to Palitoy for packing why remove the evidence of where it was made? to answer jedi junes question no coo arent usually attributed to either Palitoy or Meccano, they are known as "euro" variants, which is jusy a cop out meaning nobkdy has a clue lol. I think the exception is the deep scar no coo usually attributed to Poch/PBP

 No that's my fault. I did try to not hijack it but the conversation took off. I'll open a new thread for Scars and Bars and that sort of stuff. Can we take this back to Meccano and did they make their own as per the OP.
