Terrible news. Reports of a ground to air missile. 295 on board. Wonder where this will go. Dreadful time to work or be involved with Malaysian airlines.

Yep awful news, very sad ...as you say there could be serious reprisals if its proven the plane has been shot down.

Jesus this is massive.
Remember this day. So far the casualties include; Dutch, German, Canadian, Australian, Indonesian, British, American, Belgian.

Did you see on the news about the Russian separatists bragging on their equivalent of Facebook, about downing what they thought was an Illusion Cargo plane? "We warned you not to fly over our airspace" The comments were quickly removed after the atrocity was made public.

RIP you innocent casualties of war, i hope it was quick

Yeah, this is not a good one - pretty much all of the passengers from the West and it seems as though the plane was shot down with weapons supplied by the Russian Government.

This is pretty shocking as it could have been anyone that we know on that plane quite easily - there will certainly be no commercial planes flying in that airspace for a long time

This could just as easily be a false flag attack led by Blackwater or alike. I dont believe much I see on the major news channels these days. It's all controlled by Reuters and AP and the owners of those companies have more power and more fingers in more pies than we could even imagine. Let's not kid ourselves in thinking that the Ukraine is not just as strategically important to some of the western fat cats as it is to Russia. Been led into too many wars based on bullshit. We can neither afford to get involved nor point fingers before it has been properly investigated. It's amazing how quickly the press is eager to blame Russian "separatists". It smacks of 9/11 and how quickly "al quaeda" got the blame. All too convenient and I don't buy it I'm sorry. I don't trust the Russian government but its sad to say I don't trust the cock ends in charge of the US or the UK any more than the Russians. I don't necessarily mean politicians here either as they don't really control much and do not dictate international affairs.

Thoughts have to be with anyone who has lost their lives or had relatives on that plane. More unfortunate souls who have been caught up in the seemingly endless resource war. Makes me sick.

As for what it seems they shot the plae down not knowing it was a passenger plane.....

Read more then 150 dutch people on board... RIP to all on the flight and much strength to the family left behind.

I cant see much in the way of military retaliation. Both the Uk and the US have spent too much financially, politically and in terms if lives lost, in both Iraq and Afghanistan to want to start another war. Besides they know Putin wouldn't stand by and let them kill separatists.
We may get more sanctions and more covert and overt help for the Ukraine but not much more.

I suspect even the Russians know that this is a massive 'no no' and a line that shouldn't be crossed. Putin may be trying to portrait himself as Billy big balls, but he's not daft enough to start a war.

Very sad, but it's happened before and will probably happen again. Notably USA shot down a fully loaded airbus of Iranians back in 1988 over the gulf and eventually coughed up 60 million for compensation to the victims some 8 years later at an international tribune.

Awful, distressing and simply pointless actions that have caused the world to sit up and condem.

I just hope that the stupidity and crass disrespect currently being shown at the crash site is quickly stopped and the professional organisations are organised to get in there and ensure that these sadly lost souls are respectfully dealt with and they are returned to their families and loved ones to allow them to grieve.
