LUKE PONCHO, NO LIGHTSABER?

Think they were getting lazy at this point. He should've had a removable hat as well really, like Leia Poncho.

A good question, but a better one I've always thought is why on earth did Luke Bespin come with a yellow sabre? The original farmboy Luke having a yellow sabre I can kind of forgive because Kenner was rushing to get the toys out, Star Wars was still very new at that point and not everyone might have realised what colour it should be, perhaps they wanted to differentiate him from Ben and Vader, etc., etc. There are several plausible explanations, so I can see how the farmboy yellow sabre might have come about.... BUT, by the time Empire rolled around, Kenner had absolutely no excuse for not knowing what colour sabre Luke should have, yet they stuck Bespin Luke with another yellow one; a newly sculpted yellow one no less! Why? I would love to know the answer to that question, but I've never heard, seen or read anything even vaguely resembling an official explanation. Have any of you?

They Kenner redressed this later with the blue lightsaber on the jedi knight outfit, do you think it could just be ( its for kids) so red =bad dark side and yellow = good light side who knows :?:

Good video. It only occurred to me the other day how good the Luke Poncho figure would look with the green Luke Jedi sabre.

This is awesome. Love the Luke Hoth with the correct blue saber! Kenner really lost it with some of their accessory match-ups. At least they don't have Luke Hoth carrying a briefcase like the poor old Ugnaught....

Sorry if I come across as a smartass (I don't mean to!), and I hate to be the one to say this, but the Ugnaught's accessory was actually accurate. It is on screen, albeit briefly, and this publicity still shows it quite nicely. Granted, it's a rubbish accessory, but Kenner at least gave the character something he can actually be seen holding, which is more than can be said for Luke Hoth's rifle or the blaster they gave Bespin Han. To this day, I refuse to display my Han Bespin holding anything other than his correct blaster :)

Was it late on a Friday at Industrial Light and Magic when the demand came in for some aliens that will be used on the Baspin set. As all they could come up with was putting some dwarfs in pig mask and saying that will look fine

That would explain why they look so ****. But, always loved the Ugnaught figure :)

It was one figure I really wanted back in the day, hunted high and low for it and one day, whilst in the Lewis' dept store in Hanley, saw it hanging on a peg whilst flicking through the other figures. You cannot buy that feeling.

Love that degree of intense nostalgia. As much as I love my growing collection I haven't come across a single piece yet that gives me the same feeling as when I think back to looking at carded figures on racks back in the day. Even if it's mostly Weequays in my memory, you still can't replace that feeling.

Interesting publicity shot of the Ugnaughts. Not seen that before. Everyone has got a different face. They all so damned ugly. They picked the looker for the figure, that's for sure.

Uganaughts are the working class of bespin, they're the oil that turns the machine. And like any honest working class bloke, they need a hearty lunch to keep them going which is why kenner gave them a lunchbox.
Interesting note: The prototype version had an opening lunchbox containing a cheese and pickle sandwich, a packet of space raiders and a capri sun.

Am in total agreement mate :!: Defo should have had a sabre, also Luke Hoth should have had one too :!: I don't believe Luke actually held or indeed fired a gun/rifle during Empire while in his Hoth outfit :!: He should have came with a blue sabre and binoculars 8)

Luke X-Wing pilot also has a valid argument for having one too. They eventually gave out a grappling hook to climb the AT-AT but no Saber to cut open the hatch to bring that bad boy down.

I agree luke poncho should have had a green saber and also a removeable helmet like leia poncho.

Kenner did a lot of errors with weapons :(
