Lu Lu Berlu - Paris

A bit of a range - the R5-D4 is about 450euros but the bubble is smashed - the Chewie is the most expensive I think at 2000euros, with the others all between 1000-2000euros.

They've had them for sale since the discovery.
I've had my eye on the ROTJ Meccano LXW for a while, as there are no SW Meccano LXWs on the open market and prices for those square cut cards will be stratospheric if they ever do come up for sale.
I've spoken with Stephane about these ROTJ ones. He's of the impression that they are way overpriced.
At apx £1500 or over €2000 on eBay and in store no serious collectors are currently interested.
I'd love one though.
Thanks again for the photos

Ditto to that Jez but no one wants to pay that amount for 1 MOC when everyone knows how much the store won the whole auction lot for!
Stores like that are content to sit on their stock forever, shame really.

It's a real shame that people don't have a habit of sharing windfall's with others. They are asking what, 10x the price they paid? Even if I was a business, if I got lucky I'd market them at a price below 'retail' but still making a nice profit, everybody is happy and that's good business sense. Buying 100 MOCs and then never selling them because you're too greedy is not good business sense!

Hi Edd
You got me intrigued!,can you let me know more please? not aware of this one sorry
I presume they won a job lot auction of rare French cards in the past???? on ebay?? and listing them at over inflated prices?

cheers Peter

Thanks Edd
I must be losing it lol ,I commented on that thread a while back
Just didn't associate the paris shop with the carded figures! (that's why im a joiner/carpenter and not head of Scotland yard) ??
Yes quite a good result for the French buyer, any record of how many has been sold on and at what price?

I visited last year. an amazing place to wander around. It's like an 80's toy shop (although no 80's prices!!!) They had the Meccano ROTJ Leia when I was there which was a great piece to see. The prices were a tad crazy on everything though.

Glad you had a good time and picked up some bits!

Does anybody know the sellers personally? If they are good guys, which it sounds like from the OP, it would be good to open the conversation about their prices on the Meccano MOCs. Surely if they paid an average of 100 euros each they can slash their prices and still make a great profit? I bet they would fly out the door at 500 euros each and they'd still make 400 euros on each one, 20,000 euros profit on the box!

I've seen this far too many times recently, people find bulk volumes of 'rare' items and still think they're worth the same individual price that they would have been when only one of a kind. That's not how the laws of supply and demand work. If somebody found 48 trilogo Madine's he'd no longer be a £3000 MOC.

The trouble is though, that they would sell them for a bargain price just to see them AFA graded and up on ebay for stupid money. They will see it that they might as well make the money themselves. There is a Meccano Luke on and off ebay for $10k now - I bet that is from this find.

Not saying its right - just that I kind of understand their mindset.

Well you could apply that logic to anything - occasionally some moron pays £150 for a loose Luke Farmboy or 5 grand for a 12 back. Does that make them all worth that much? No. Most of us deal in market values, eg an average based on previous sales, or if there are no previous sales (which may be the case here) a reasonable price compared to rarity, not automatically £1000
