Low value customs question

I have just bought something from CC and am going to ask them to put a low value on it, in the hope and I can save myself a nasty shock when the item arrives and customs get their greedy hands on it.
Do I need to specify an amount or will CC know what the limit is at which UK customs kick in?
As a matter of interest, what is the limit?

I know some of you have done this before, and CC insure through a third party so they don't mind putting a low value on packages. I just wanna make sure I don't get stung.

Ã'£36 (possibly Ã'£32) if its marked as merchandise

Just ask them to put $30 value on it. They won't declare as a gift as that would look a bit dodgy with the post office.

Whenever I got items from them I just ask for a 20 dollars, luckily with cc as said the third party insurance means you dont need to worry , when i get ppl abroad to put a 20 dollar gift ay my risk then its more of a worry but otherwise the item sits in customs for extra days and you get a bill you dont really need and i am fed up with getting anything expensive or heavy from aboard now with postal charges becoming high and custom charges its just not any fun

theres alkways that one time though if the item were to get lost you are ****ed but with the third party insured you are not

Last time I bought something back in Feb they put $30 on the green form without me even asking. Always worth reminding them though - if I remember correctly they ask you to specify the value with payment (I didn't in Feb as I forgot when I sent the paypal payment).

Anything Ã'£18 and under you do not have to pay duty. If marked as a gift you can have up to Ã'£36 before duty starts.

Cloud City are always happy to put low values on paperwork. I always worry that the item will end up damaged or missing when I do that but they always arrive quickly and in perfect condition.
