What on earth is going on with these?

have noticed some crazy prices on both eBays and on FB - beater figures / repainted figures and figures with repro weapons all going for the sort of money that I was selling minty figures for before Xmas

Is it just a shortage of figures coupled with an increase in demand ?

I was just thinking the same thing after looking through the ebay sold search section. Maybe there are a lot of new people getting into collecting and as most of us have done, loose figures are normally the first place to start. You only need a few bidders interested to push the price up and I have noticed quite a few different bidders on the same figure.

It looks to be still a good time for sellers at the moment.

just thinking the same, a lot of new people buys (and not the best Figures i mean, most have paint lost, Repro capes etc..) a lot of waste for a lot of Money. Dont know why this lose figures goes up like a Rocket

There is much better Stuff out there................

Precisely Joe! I don't think there's any rhyme nor reason to it mate. The prices things go for seems to vary loads with ebay. Sometimes I pick up Jedi MOCs for under £50 and then I see people trying to sell a not that special Jedi character MOC for like £130 or something!? Same with the loose. A lot of it prob comes down to knowledge (or lack of it) and deluded sellers putting daft prices on things. Also some new or young collectors might not have a clue, don't do any research and just start buying. You also get the ebay addicts who just do it for the end of auction buzz and sniping.

I agree the prices are crazy. But maybe it would be a mistake to wait if the price do not come down again :?

Have the price ever gone down ? after it has going up ?

I've long since given up on eBay for vintage. You can't guarantee the quality or if it's repro or not, and some of the item descriptions are way off, and even once you've taken all of that into account prices are generally way over the odds. I suspect most of the price inflaction is due to shill bidding, and people panic buying as the EP7 hype builds up.

I will only ever buy from SWFUK, safe place to do business and prices are realistic...now wheres my credit card

Its got stupid, I was looking for a loose Orange haired Luke Farmboy, they're going on RS for around $1500 now!

I was trying to get a pop-up R2 and they seem to be stupid prices now, I said it was easier to get a Yak for cheaper now. Luckily I took a risk on an auction with small photos and incomplete title, got a minty R2 for a nice price :)

To be honest, Iain, I have more and more respect for you still selling to moderate prices on here instead of digging gold on eBay.

You have been a reliable, high quality non repro seller for years. Ebay is so full of repro atm, I do not buy there anymore.

Three big lots of loosies have gone for silly money as well recently and every one of them was riddled with repro junk. People are definitely cashing in but it's got to be demand driven.

As for FB, price for MOCS are just plain crazy. Some people just have too much money and too small brains. It seems like you just throw up any price and some muppet will buy it.

Also, just saw an AFA 85 Greedo on ebay go for £1k. In anyone's book that's feckin mad.

Some people are going to get burned so bad when they come to sell.

I don't think you can really blame the newbies, we all made ill-informed purchases when starting out. Unfortunately it's just the way markets work, if there's more demand than there is supply prices will go up!

Nice one mate. Yes they are still out there but getting harder to come by. I missed out on this Vader by seconds the other morning (I forgot about him  )

Time to pull out that beater bin from the closet, shoot a few pics, and cash in! You guys couldn't be more right, prices are nuts... deals are to be had, but you really have to be on it.

Hi all,
I wanted to weigh in on this topic to give a bit of perspective from the other side of the fence. I'll start with a confession, I probably am one of the newcomers pushing up prices on ebay. I even started just after Christmas. I've been asking myself what it was that made me start re-collecting the figures? I think there might have been a news story in the press on vintage Star Wars that stirred the desire to reacquire my childhood toys. I'm also expecting my first child in a couple of months and am determined she will have real toys to develop her imagination instead of playing computer games all day as most kids seem to now. (They don't have to be Star Wars toys, but I have a few beaten up figures with repro weapons if she wants them!)

Anyway, just a confession from a noob collector. Yes, I've made some mistakes, over paid for stuff and have some nasty repros in my collection. But I'm here now and ready to learn. I've also just got my first taste for MOC so I need to learn quickly before I start blowing serious money.

Finally - this is the wrong section to be asking this question, but put me out of my misery anyway - how much is a 12 back Leia going to cost me???

Welcome on board - you have come to the right place !

I think that there are a lot of people out there in the same position as you - rediscovering the toys they had as a kid and also introducing their children to them (my lttle one loves the beater figures - as well as my nice ones if she can get her hands on them). When you're not paying huge sums then you don;t do much research and presume that everything is legitimate - unfortunately eBay is a wretched hive of scum and villany and there are so many seller out there trying to pass of fakes, repaints and repros. If they are beater figures then it doesn;t matter so much but as you get into collectiing then all those nasty repros will annoy you. You'll also fine that if you shop around (especially on the forum) then you can pick yup the real deal for not a lot more.

Still there is plenty to learn and that is the fun part of the hobby - as questions on here and you'll soon know more :D

In terms of you question about the 12 back Leia - you've picked a bad time to look for one of them - 12 backs have almost doubled in price in the last year and I would say that you are looking at least around the 500 pound mark for one in decent shape

Gulp(!). Cheers. Maybe I'll start with an ESB Leia Bespin and work my way up from there...

Welcome mate -

Great advice from Iain

Yes be wary on ebay, and do some research it will help you. If your new to ebay also, there are some great threads on here which will help if you come across a difficult buyer/seller

Happy collecting
