Looking to buy AFA graded loose figures

Hi I'm looking to buy AFA graded loose figures.

Graded 85 or higher, I don't mind the U grade.

This is a new collection so need all of them

Touchy subject here and most groups and forums because of MOC being unnecessarily destroyed

I understand people are not happy about how they get their U-Grade and I agree figures shouldn't be took off their card to get graded.

However, there still quality figures and I personally would still love to own them.

I sold my AFA collection on here around a year ago, there was a few U-Grades so I did make sure it was within the rules before I listed them.

If people stopped buying them they'd soon become less valuable. Why not just buy none u-graded ones? There are literally millions out there aren't there?? It's a no-brainier.

Yes it is. If people don't buy the the market goes. So if you say "I want 85 or better loose graded figures that are not u grades" then nobody sells u grades, they aren't worth the grading cost and nobody bothers destroying any more Mocs for selfish and greedy means.

It's a bit like saying, "I know this rhino horn medicine is going to see the rhino wiped off the face of the earth, but I didn't shoot it and it's already dead now so what does it matter, I'll buy it anyway".

I understand what your all saying but even if AFA never gave them the U-Grade people would still rip them open and get them graded?

However I don't want to upset anyone so my collection will Be U-Grade FREE!

Maybe, but there are plenty of non u 85 graded loose figures out there so people would be far less likely to destroy Mocs as it wouldn't make financial sense.

Thanks for taking the responsible view though with regards to this set you are going to assemble.

I must admit, I haven't seen any loose graded for sale for a while.

I have to admit I don't understand what the point to the U is as it is still only a loose figure and can be painted worse than a really nice loose figure anyway

personally I don't mind the odd U graded figure here and there, I wouldn't get a figure taken off a card to grade unless the card was a total mess though, but I would buy them that have already been done.
P.S I have a nice U90 squidy if anyones interested

In support of the recent movement against U-grading, including UKG's pledge to stop the practice, it is no longer permitted to sell U-graded items on this forum. The ONLY exception to this is items that have come from mailing/shipping boxes, eg U-graded baggies (still in their bags) or sealed mini-rigs.

Again, you are either part of the problem or part of the solution. if you are happy to have a u grade in your collection then you might as well just rip whatever you want off the card. The excuse of "I didn't do it so it's ok" don't wash.

It's simple people. If the market for this **** isn't there then the practice will stop. If you think taking a figure off a card is not a good thing then you are a hypocrite unless you say no to all u grades.

Mocs are a finite resource and there are thousands of loose figures already off their cards. You may think the card is a mess but there are dozens of collectors out there who collect them. That one ****ed up moc may be the only moc of that type in existence. You think that's dramatic? There's examples of this out there. People too ignorant to understand the significance of a piece. Only recently Richard found a palitoy 45 back Luke bespin in Newcastle (can't remember wether it was Rotj or esb. Gary will elaborate). Not in the mintiest condition but thought to be the only known version of that card moc. Imagine if the card had a tear, piece missing or the bubble a crack? Someone buys it and thinks it's only fit for u grading because it would be worth more (too ignorant to realise what they have). It's still unique (and worth far more than any u grade). That piece of history is then gone forever. Because some greedy **** wants to make a quick buck.

You need to educate yourself to the potential damage that you are doing to this hobby.

You can't sell your squid head here. the rules strictly forbid it.

Seemingly, from the other responses above I wasn't the only person that didn't get this "joke".

It's about getting involved in the hobby, and preserving it for years to come. Learning about these destructive practices and helping to try to put an end to them. It's a little bit more than just an opinion.

I've decided I want to start a MOC collection. The thing that put me off this before was I bought a couple in the past and one of them was a fake! Has anyone got any advice to spot these fakes or know of any genuine sellers of MOC's? Or any general advice would be appreciated.

My best advice is to buy the first few you get from trusted sellers. Use the feedback thread here to see who's who. Once you have picked up a few you will get a good feel as to what's right.

If you aren't sure on an item you might want to buy, get some photos and post them up here. Don't link auctions as you might get scalped. The forum will do the identification for you.

There are a lot of tells you can use to id fakes. Once you have a few in hand you will be able to read up on the features that give fakes away and relate them to your items.

It generally comes down to the cards being poorly printed scans on the wrong card stock, incorrect bubbles and the incorrect way of sealing bubbles to cards.

Don't be afraid to ask. There is a wealth of knowledge here that is free for you to call upon if you need to.

You'll definitely find buying carded figures for the same kind of prices as high grade loose figures in acrylic boxes (with stickers) is 100 x more enjoyable!
