Surprised by Southgate's sacking now. As you say they are 1 point from the top of the Championship.
Saying that the guy is a **** manager, nice bloke, but **** manager. Look at how they have done under his stewardship. Each year they got worse and worse. McClaren is a great coach, but not a great manager, yet Southgate managed to dismantle McClaren's pretty decent team and replace it with one of utter ****. Hence the relegation.
Right move from Gibson, just two years too late!
As for Liverpool, where do I start!?
I haven't seen the game, I was running around a hockey pitch for two hours in the pissing rain.
1) They seem to be clean out of luck ATM. That Sunderland goal is worse than a one in a million. Yes, Sunderland probably deserved to win anyway, but deserving to win and winning aren't the same thing. Also, in the Chelsea game it was fairly even (and that should probably be evenly poor/dull) until Chelsea scored. Had Liverpool scored first who knows what might have happened. Those two results would have made a lot of difference to the confidence levels as well.
2) They are getting hit by a lot of injuries at the same time. Ok Aquilai is injured, but we knew that would happen. But having Gerrard and Torres both injured while away on International Duty (both playing in games were their Countries had already qualified) is doubly unfortunate. Then add in Johnson's injury, I think he has been Liverpool's player, of the season so far, Agger only just coming back to full fitness, Riera doing his groin and then Mashcerano, Insua, and Lucas being half way round the world on International duty it doesn't help! Suddenly I know how Arsenal fans must feel!
3) Liverpool's squad is the weakest of the big four. I don't think this was a huge secret (how many PL clubs would want Voronin/Ngog?), but added to point two it means that there is little in the way of proper back up for injured first team players so obviously results will suffer. This is in part due to point 4
4) Those stupid Yanks, and TBF the idiots who ran the club before them. I'm looking at you Moores!
How can a club sell their best midfielder (assuming you accept Gerard is/was a striker last season) for £30 million and yet still only have £40 million to spend on players over the summer!? WTF happened to the money the club generates!? Liverpool are probably one of the best supported clubs in the world (plenty of glory hunters but then every big club gets them) so where is all that money going? What happened to the money the from the league/CL run? The stadium revenue? Shirt sales? Before anyone says it's gone on debt repayments, United have bigger debts (and bigger income granted) but they still manage to find £20-£30 million should a player/players be needed. Liverpool seem to be making do on a shoe-string, or selling to buy. If that is the case then why did the Yanks buy the club!? If they are Asset stripping it, surely they would have sold Torres with City/Chelsea came in with offers!?
Finally
5) Benitez. No he's not the best manager the world has ever seen ever ever ever. But, he is the best person for the Job ATM. FFS who else out there is going to do a better job?
Don't say Mourinho, because we all know what his style of "football†is like, and anyway WHY would he leave a cushy number at Inter. Harry Redkanpp (Browny) wise up. The man's a ****ing tactical gooseberry! And a ****!
There are very few decent top level managers about at the minute, and short of taking a gamble on some un-known who the **** else is there? Hiddink is out because of his Russian connections. Ibramovich will hardly let him take over at Liverpool while he pays the bulk of his salary as Russia Manager. Capello is happy taking the FA’s money. Scolari and Ramos both flopped in the PL. Trapatoni, Lippi are both happy in their current International jobs, plus I would have my doubts about them adapting to the Premiership.
So, who’s left?
Sounsess back!? O’leary, George Graham, Phil Thompson!?
Long story short, it's not exactly ideal ATM, and I fully expect us to lose on Sunday, but it's not gonna do us any good to get rid of Benitez. Get rid of the Yanks yes, and get someone with a few pennies so Benitez can busy someone who knows how to play the game. Knee jerk reactions will only make the situation worse. We have to grin and bear it at the minute (****, that will be hard if the scum win on Sunday) and just hope the Yanks **** OFF sometime soon, preferably before Liverpool as a club fold.
Did you know they (Liverpool) had to guarantee the Premier league they were financially viable, such is the degree of nervousness amongst the PL and FA at Liverpool’s financial predicament!
It was never ideal before the take over, but FFS we were never in danger of going into administration!
