Im almost buying a mint laser disc player with the unedited trilogy. Trying to work out a deal with the guy. The player and discs are in really good condition. Have offered £60 for the lot.

Is that enough, too much, too little ??

I must admit, i don't know what a laser disk is.
But you know you can by the original unedited trilogy on DVD right?

£60 for the lot seem a little on the low side, would imagine there is quite the nostalgia on those machines.
But I'm not sure though, been a long time since I saw a Laserdisc player for sale.

Edit: Nevermind me, had a look on ebay, and looks as though the player goes for around that amount...

Buy it! Had a massive Laser Disk collection back in the day and that Star Wars version is superb!

Yeah the films are practically worthless (£5 each) but working players can go for a lot more than that.

Got it today with a bunch of other films. Its awesome. Didnt know you can still buy the unedited dvds pete, ive only ever seen the remastered trilogy since they came out

Yeah i have them. They're hidden away on the bonus disks of the 90s release of the edited versions. That's the only DVD release with of original versions. The first half of Jedi, especially, is completely ruined by the extra additions so having the originals on DVD is essential. No cartoon singer added to the band in Jabba's palace and no little shop of horrors comedy beak on the saarlac. Thank god!

Are the laser disc versions widescreen? I'd be interested to see a rip of them, as the 'theatrical DVD' release isn't great quality.

The Definitive Laserdisc set is one of my favorite releases of all time for the OT. Before DVD took off, I always wanted a Laser disc player as the format was really for movie buffs with almost all of them presented in widescreen when at the time most VHS releases were all cropped. From what I've read, when they put out the bonus DVD discs of the unaltered OT, they just copied the laserdisc versions and called it a day. The main problem with the format though is having to flip the disc every 30-60 minutes. Later on they did make players that could read both sides, but I think even today those command a premium.

Glad to hear you picked them up!

My pioneer laserdisc player broke a long time ago. Interesting that you can pick them up for £60. When it originally broke, I figured i could buy most
of my laserdiscs on DVD for the same price as a new laserdisc player, so that's what I did.

Still have all my laserdiscs, including the original Star Wars laserdisc:-

My favourite part was pausing on the closing medals ceremony to look at the cardboard cutout rebels at the sides of the audience.

it's been available on the web for ages ;)

Hello,

very interestin topic these days. Internet is full of versions of SW, but how to know you are watching laser disc version? what parts of frames to look?

I think resolution was about 600x270 pixels, but resolution can be changed with programs, so how to know if you are viewing laser disc version?

Thanks a lot! ;)

My Pioneer CLD-2950 died a long time ago and I'm always looking for another one. If the have the AC3 mod on them they seem to go for big money.

Never seen that edition before...really nice.
