So...why did the Kellerman book go out of print?
Who owns the rights to the book now?
Surely there would be a market to get this back out there. Or could a bunch of intelligent experts put together a new version?

Ah okay.

Would it be viable to put together an alternative version? If the market in old Kellerman is so high - why hasn't anyone gone ahead and made a new book?

I believe John suffered from a hemorrhagic stroke, wich caused him to lose his sight (or most of it and lots of other issues). But as far as i know, this is John's book and he still own the rights, when the book came out he had a hard time selling it and now the demand is so high, instead off doing a reprint, he is collaborating with other well respected collectors to have an updated version wich lots of new information, hundereds of new items pictured etc....

Downside is that they are working or planning this book for several years now and everytime, someone brings it up again they say it's nearly about to come out now, but they are even telling that for a few years now..... If it ever comes out great, but as long as the original one is the only one availble, the demand and prices will remain high. The book is almost a collectors item by itself.

Yeah a new version will be released sometime in the future.

John K has indeed had some health setbacks in the last few years but I'm pretty confident the second edition will be released one day.

In fact you can check out some sample pages here: http://www.frontbackbooks.com/new-page-samples

Collector books always seem to follow the same pattern, they take ages to sell out yet once they are all gone every collector and their dog wants a copy which is why you see them for sale for silly money now.

Joe and Dennis, are correct. The second copy is definitely going to be released. I know the same has been said over the past few years but it is coming. Its a major task but its being handled by some major players within the hobby so rest assured it will come and it will trump anything else book wise that's out there as far as the Vintage toys etc go. Just my 2 pence worth. 8)

Well Grant I'm going to hold you responsible for this as been thinking about buying a kellerman book but the prices are rising on this. But if you're categorically stating that a second edition is on its way I'm going to take your word. You best be right or I'll release a thousand slugs through your letterbox. :D

LOL, I can say with absolute assurance that the book is going to come. Will we have it in hand in the next 12 months, I don't honestly know but we will have it at some point in the *near future*. Iv spoken to a few of the guys working on the project so i have no doubt in my mind that it will happen. I stupidly sold my first issue back in 2010 boy did I regret that. Its something you can pick up and read a million times and not get bored of it. The second one will be even better. So hold back on the slugs there Pal.

Grant's the man to trust on this one! I definitely have faith in the second edition coming out one day (soon hopefully).

That looks amazing.

So sad to hear of John's health.

If anyone is after the original, - I paid £100 for mine and don't regret it at all. Its a stunning book, packed full of information and anyone who collects Kenner should absolutely have one.

Trust me- it has tons of answers to regular questions posted on forums about cardbacks, variations, coins, mail aways, foreign stickers.

Probably in the top 5 star wars collecting books released and theres a big difference from the top 5 to all the others :)

Well worth buying instead of your next MOC.

I can guarantee one thing, both the 2nd edition Kellerman book and Episode 9 film will be out well before this book:
